This is really annoying as I now have to use password to login to my keynote. The fingerprint sensor lights no longer blink and it says hardware not available. this happened all at once and suddenly.

Has anyone encountered this and what is the solution.

Also, why hasn't blackberry come out about this issue, their silence on this matter is alarmingly loud

It has come up a few times, you can try a factory reset but 50/50 chance that will work. It's generally a hardware issue, as indicated by the error.

If it's within their threshold of acceptable hardware failures why would they mention it? Especially on a device they no longer produce. Just like when you buy a TV/monitor with dead pixels, they don't send out an announcement each time someone has an issue.

Its just unbelievable how the once wonderful fingerprint scanner has stopped working. The keynote just feels incomplete without it. The feature added to my operational speed

I did not check out Bla1ze's links but another thing to try is to remove all password protection from the device which apparently clears some internal cache that "permanently" retains scanned finger prints. They way to clear it is to remove all password protection and then try adding new ones.

But if the lights have stopped showing it might be hardware.

    Good luck.

Worst case, replacement keypads go for like $30 on eBay, I've done the swap myself and it's not very difficult.
