I have a Classic now, but am considering getting a KeyOne, because slowness of the 5-year old chipset and reasons. But I would like to handle one before I buy, and I have a few basic questions--

    1. Is there any baked-in or programmable equivalent to the Classic's method to unlock by pressing U+Enter?

    2. Is there similarly a programmable keyboard shortcut to lock the phone and turn the screen off, or do you have to use the power button? Long-pressing K key on the Classic functions just like the power button when the phone is already unlocked. The only time I use the power button is when the phone's in the cupholder.

    3. The lack of that sweet Play/Pause key between the volume buttons is gonna suck. Is there a keyboard shortcut that can serve that function, or can the convenience key be mapped be used that way?

    4. Same question, but with hanging up the phone? I would miss no-look hangups.

    5. Can you simply type out a phone number with the keyboard letters that correspond to the Alt numbers, then call that number with a tap or two? No-look dialing has come in surprisingly handy!

    6. Does the keyboard double-tap bring a cursor up on web pages and articles? It's so quick and easy to cut, copy, and paste anywhere and anytime with the Classic.

    7. Are the navigation buttons above the keyboard customizable? I'd like to have the Back key on the right for better one-handed use. I haven't used Android past 5.1.1, so I'm not up to speed on Nougat's features.

    8. A lot of my questions involve features that ease no-look operation. How does the KeyOne stack up against the Classic (and Bolds, for that matter)?

    9. Can you create different notification profiles with custom app notification settings, and can you switch between them with a long-press hotkey bind?

    10. Can the fingerprint sensor recognize multiple fingers?

Thanks for any answers in advance!

That's more than a few!!!! Whew just be warned there will be a learning curve as most if not all of your questions are about device behaviour! There are key remapping apps you can use as well as program long/short press keyboard shortcuts!

"1. Is there any baked-in or programmable equivalent to the Classic's method to unlock by pressing U+Enter?"

Not that I know of, not with the keyboard. But double tapping the screen wakes it up if that's any consolation.

Double tapping the screen while it's on will turn the screen off when on the home screen. Different, but it's the same in that you don't need to use the power button to do these functions.

"3. The lack of that sweet Play/Pause key between the volume buttons is gonna suck. Is there a keyboard shortcut that can serve that function, or can the convenience key be mapped be used that way?"

No, and no, and yes it sucks, oh well... And thanks for calling it a play/pause button instead of a mute button. But the convenience key does act like that key during calls, in that it mutes the calls. But no easy way to play/pause media as of now...

"4. Same question, but with hanging up the phone? I would miss no-look hangups."

Not the convenience key, but you can set the power button to hang up calls, it works great.

"5. Can you simply type out a phone number with the keyboard letters that correspond to the Alt numbers, then call that number with a tap or two? No-look dialing has come in surprisingly handy!"

Well, I have my KEYone set to do shortpress keyboard shortcuts as well as longpress. I find doubling the number of keyboard shortcuts is far more handy that dialing from the home screen. You can easily set a short press of a key to launch the phone app, and then going to the dialer and typing out the number from the keyboard then. Unfortunately as of right now, there's a bit of a bug that needs to be fixed. If you launch the phone app, it defaults to showing you the favorites screen, so you'll have to manually switch to the dialer. However, and here's the bug, there is a shortcut to go straight to the dialer instead of launching the app itself, except if you use this shortcut the keyboard isn't "active" or something and you'd have to touch the screen first to get it to work. Really annoying, I'm going to post about it in their sticky and hopefully it gets fixed in the next update...

"6. Does the keyboard double-tap bring a cursor up on web pages and articles? It's so quick and easy to cut, copy, and paste anywhere and anytime with the Classic."

No, only while typing. I'm also hoping this feature gets added. This is why I specifically correct people when they claim the capacitive keyboard replaces or acts like a trackpad.

"7. Are the navigation buttons above the keyboard customizable? I'd like to have the Back key on the right for better one-handed use. I haven't used Android past 5.1.1, so I'm not up to speed on Nougat's features."

No, the buttons are capacitive, they are not software.

"8. A lot of my questions involve features that ease no-look operation. How does the KeyOne stack up against the Classic (and Bolds, for that matter)?"

Que? Stack up in what way? I mean, I can type without looking and hang up on calls without looking... Not sure what else...

"9. Can you create different notification profiles with custom app notification settings, and can you switch between them with a long-press hotkey bind?"

If by different you mean normal and vibrate, then yes, lol.

"10. Can the fingerprint sensor recognize multiple fingers?"

    No idea, don't use it.

Thanks for the answers. Most of the work-arounds seem ok. I was wondering if there's a music player and/or podcast app that would pause when you hit the spacebar or enter key. Power button hang-up sounds nice. I hope they add a 'cursor function' mode later. That's the only big feature that's still missing.

I'll have to go into the Sprint store soon and handle one to see if it feels right.

In addition to what slagman5's answers...you can add a keyboard shortcut to lock the phone (k is the default key), unique notification sounds can be set for each app (if the app allows, then you can set it up within each app, and the fingerprint scanner can store 5 finger prints.

One more question: Does the Keyone have a Paratek antenna? How does the reception stack up against the Classic, Passport, Q10, and Z30? My Z30 and Classic always got reception more reliably than anyone else's phones.

I think the reception isn't as good because of the amount of metal surrounding the phone. But for me it has been pretty good still.
