I found a gem today after installing Unified Remote. While testing out the functionality of the app, I decided to see if there were any 3-finger gestures. There was not, but something weird happened. My Privacy Shade was activated.

By swiping down with 3 fingers, you can activate the Privacy Shade anywhere quickly and effortlessly!

After discovering this, I decided to do some digging. After maybe 30 minutes of searching, I decided no one else knew about this amazing feature. It isn't listed in the Privacy Shade tutorial or in the help page. I don't know if Blackberry is trying to hide this feature or if they just forgot about it, but it is so much more convenient than the quick-settings toggle.

I just thought I would share my find with the community! I hope everyone is having a fantastic week! Yay for having an interesting first post

good work! I'm finding it fiddly to deactivate, but defo useful to know. it's worth sticking this in the general tips and tricks thread as well as it's stickied.

I sort of discovered this a long while back but never made the connection between the Privacy Shade just popping open and the occasional use of three fingers for swiping instead of two fingers. Thanks to you (the OP)I now know why this is happening.

Just swipe down with three fingers again to deactivate. Easy peasy.

It was noted in one of the Privacy Shade updates a while back. Not sure but I think just before the Motion was launched. Most people won't swipe with 3 fingers as much as they will use the convenience key, i think.

Seems not to work on PRIV STV100-4 .
Only 3 finger down from top only brings the same android notification menu as 2 fingers down here.

I use the shade a lot (assigned to the convenience key) but I never knew this trick.

    Brilliant !!

I wonder then if the three finger swipe could actually become a programmable gesture or shortcut to anything we wanted..

Not really. BB10 gestures are more convenient because they are one-finger gestures (the only exception being the two-finger quick settings menu gesture)
