Honestly, unless you have a specific need to encrypt data in-transit, probably not.

I keep sensitive items off my phone. I use a VPN for foreign travel (watch home based TV), keeping the internet provider calm while tormenting, etc.

you need VPN to view home content when traveling abroad... also need it to download torrent content without getting an isp warning... I bought lifetime VPNunlimited when on sale and have had good results

I have the same vpn. I caught a lifetime deal myself. They run promo sales on it from time to time. They may have an Easter sale or an avengers promo sale or something.

I use my vpn for a few reasons. For the most basic reason, I use it to protect my IP information on guest wifi. I also use it to bypass blocked website access.

Example: When I was in college, my school would block students from accessing certain websites (I think I was trying to access worldstar hip-hop at the time) A VPN gave a virtual IP address that their wifi network did not recognize. That's how I was able to browse the site on their network.

I use two different VPNs. One is for work. The other is NordVPN for personal stuff. I use it anytime I'm connected to a public WiFi like at a hotel. I try to avoid using it but sometimes you have to use a public wifi.

I use NordVPN on my KEY² even on my home wifi. I like the protection and privacy it provides since it encrypts my Internet data (and no it is not pornography) before it goes through my isp (Mediacom). I have it on my laptop as well.
NordVPN. Since I do all of my banking using my banks app I thinks this encryption is a must for banking security.
NordVPN also offers two versions of the app. One that is available in the Playstore that does not block ads in accordance to Google policy, and an ad blocking version available on NordVPN's website. I use the ad blocking version.
I'm normally connected to Nords servers in Canada even though I'm located in the States. What is ironic is being connected to the Canadian servers my banking app works great, connected to servers in the States is it doesn't work. However when I'm shopping on Amazon I do have to switch to US servers so I don't see Canadian prices. The app makes that easy to do.

How on earth are you able to watch home based TV? Do you run your own PC as a media server? I started using TorGuard on my Fire TV just for privacy from my ISP keeping track of what I watch to add more value to the data that they likely sell about all their customers. I was already using it on my PC for both security & privacy. I discovered that Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Prime video ALL refuse to allow me to watch the content I already paid them for unless I turned off my VPN! I'm always logged in with a username and password so it's definitely a case of them wanting to know my location. The only option I'm offered by TorGuard is to pay more per month than the VPN service itself costs (thanks to buying a two year promotional offer on Black Friday)

So if you know a way for me to keep using the VPN & still access the content I'm paying for I would be VERY interested to learn how!

I've always been aware that if you aren't paying money for a product then YOU'RE the thing being sold. What I have never been able to find out is, unlike "real" paid services like Nord, what's the business model for the "lifetime" deals we keep seeing here? I'm pretty sure that the "free" services like Windscribe or the free VPN in the Opera browser they make their money by selling (hopefully) anonymized data about the things their users do online. What they shop for, things they post or email to people etc. But the deals like $39 or even $59 for a lifetime of service isn't even close to what I paid for ONE of the two years of VPN service. How can a company possibly profit from even $59 if they have to maintain secure servers all over the place?? I'm genuinely curious, if anyone knows!

I've tried posting this question in the comments on several of the lifetime VPN deals here on CB but nobody's ever responded.
