A notification came through for a software update so I downloaded it thinking it was the latest security patch. As the minutes ticked by I realized it was something more. Took about 20 minutes and it says my device is now running Android 8.1. on AT&T in Los Angeles.

Did you really ask if it's android 8.1 when it clearly says it on your phone???

I think the op was just asking for verification, sounded like they were surprised by the update. It's a valid question even if there is a straightforward and simple answer of yes.

yeah, I asked. if you're on AT&T and on a BlackBerry like I've been for 10 years you don't expect to ever get updates. I'm still shocked.

I was upgraded to 8.1 recently too and now none of my music players recognize my music that is on my SD card?

    WTF?

*fixed - I had to refresh catalog basically*

The thought of using a Blackberry in 2018 is shocking enough for some people.

Well, if you can't stand that shock, you can move to Verizon. Rarely are we ever shocked by an early, on-time or even late update.

Try an FF22™ reboot and that might unleash the Verizon updates. ;-).

Actually, complaints to the FCC worked in the past but that was when Verizon was in charge of the release. NOW?? Who knows what part Verizon plays in a device that they never officially offered.
