I noticed after upgrading to AAS212 some of the icons are circular and not the originals.

Is this from a BB Launcher update or the December update??

Funny, I upgraded the BlackBerry Launcher AND updated to AAS212 at the same time today.

Some icons look like butt now. I guess the update name makes sense now...

I think it's AAS212. I only got that last night and only then got the circle icons. My BB Launcher was last updated 2 days ago. Wish I could change that. I preferred the non-circle backgrounds.

It's not. I'm on AAR970 and have the same icons. It's the launcher.

^then how come I didn't get circle backgrounds 2 days ago? in any case I wish you had the option to choose shapes or at least whether you want to keep to keep the background or not.

It's the December patch. Either AAR970 or AAS212.

AAR970. Verizon has their own message app, Message+ which was updated yesterday.
Now a circular icon instead of the old square one. No likey at all.

Launcher 1.1.7.xxx has a target API of Oreo 8.0, while 1.1.6.xxx has a target API of Nougat 7.0. I believe this behavior is BB's implementation of Adaptive Icons.

I think for me, it showed up in the Photo or Gallery Google app. The KeyOne is downstairs where "SHE MAY NOT BE DISTURBED" sorting my junk.

I think it's about the white background circle for apps like VLC and Photos, here, also Play Store. I think someone was talking about the app drawer changing.

Around here, somewhere, a devel type is talking about having to re-write icons because of changes in Oreo, upcoming for Keyone, allegedly, around "adaptive icons".

I can't find that but there are some suspiciously familiar-looking descriptions of the changes to icons here:

    https://www.androidcentral.com/adaptive-icons

    and here:

    https://www.androidheadlines.com/201...on-shapes.html

Could someone try uninstalling updates to the BB launcher on AAR970/AAS212 to see if the icon behavior is back to normal? That should return to version 1.1.6.8171.

Someone else could try putting launcher 1.1.7.8249 on a pre-AAR970 OS for the opposite case.

I just installed the Siru icon pack, and I happily no longer see any adaptive icons - er, save for Google Drive, weirdly enough.

I'll bite! I'm on AAS212, KEYone BBB100-1, PRD-63116-001 and went to Play Store, where "Uninstall" for Blackberry Launcher gave the the option to uninstall updates for this app, which I did. Voila:

Circular Icons - BB Launcher or AAS212?-1514300345834.jpg

Bingo! Bango! Bongo! My screens now have a reduced set of icons with custom setup removed (no biggie) and I was presented with the first-time orientation tutorial. (Bear with me: this is pretty much my first android rodeo ) I am a few months into Keyone, coming from about a year on Q10 with the remarkable but a bit labor-intensive Cobalt232's Google Play Store with Play Services Patcher solution for android apps, 6 or 7 years before that with my fist PKB, Treo 755p, which was abandoned by Palm, then HP, who bought Palm, and gradually deprived of its original top shelf utility. Anywhoo, I collected what icons on a white circular background there were, the main obvious harbinger of the upcoming adaptive icon paradigm, iianm, and took a screenie:

Circular Icons - BB Launcher or AAS212?-1514300217683.jpg

I rebooted and didn't notice any change.

In passing, I'll report that "Create a home screen shortcut" in Hub settings email account reports it made it so *AND* it was so! You might have noticed discussions around here and linked from here about another manifestation of "adaptive icons" changes being that this shortcut was not being created. The available shortcuts had a disappointing shortcoming of showing the spark for all account shortcuts when only one account had new mail. Bummer. I was resigned to wait for the apparently over-tasked devel team to catch up. IIRC, thurask, you don't have a Keyone but maybe you can advise me whether inhibiting auto-update for Launcher and staying with this version until K1 devs catch up, in order to have that useful spark notification working like it did before, has a significant downside.
    Thanks.

Since then, I have been able to add shortcuts to the home screen for my email accounts. Spark notification has worked as before: hub shortcut shows the spark for new messages, as do(es) the email account(s) shortcut(s) with the new message(s), as well as the text messages shortcut, as I think it ought to be. I had turned off automatic Playstore updates and only updated other apps manually until yesterday. Then, I saw BB Launcher had a newer version and installed that, along with a reboot as my home screen had no shortcuts or widgets at first. It might have loaded up with a little more waiting but I rebooted. The upshot is that all my shortcuts and widgets were restored in the layout I had made and spark has been working appropriately. I'm going to avoid removing any of the Hub shortcuts as I couldn't get them back after doing that before all this and I don't know which combination of blind moves has me a happy camper, atm.

I use a custom icon pack, so I don't have this issue. It's called the Pixel Icon Pack, and it's the best looking one I've ever used. It doesn't look like it's compatible with BBLauncher, but it is with most other launchers. I use it with Nova Launcher.
