I think you will lose the pop ups for the icon if supported and keyboard short cuts.

Only one way to tell, try it yourself. I started a thread about Nova Launcher. I had been using it for the last two days.

It has improved the performance noticeably.

I didn't know the launcher could affect that.

The launcher is an "app" like every other app you've installed. With the only difference that it always runs and thus keeps using RAM.

I had the same experience on my old LG G2. I know it's not a supported device, but the BlackBerry Launcher exhibited a lot of lag, while Nova Launcher was snappy.
