Hi, I would like to set a different notification sound and number of vibrations for sms text messages vs emails.
Is this possible?
Yes its possible. To change the notification sound for email, go into the hub, settings, then click on each email account. As for SMS, it depends on the SMS app you use. For example, I use textra and am able to change the notification sound within the textra app itself. Not sure if the stock app has the option as I haven't used it in a long time.
I'm not talking about different settings per contact: I am inquiring about a different sound for all sms texts vs all emails.
Ray689 didn't say this was per contact. It is per email account. If you only have one email account, that's where you set the notification sound for it.
The texting should have its own notification settings - including sounds.
Correct, not saying its per contact. Its per email account and SMS app. You can do it for more then one email account though. Each account can have a different notification sound.
Great! Exactly what I wanted. Thanks.
So in order for us to have a different sound for SMS we need to download a 3rd party app? This is crazy! This came so easy for BB10! I mean not looking for something complex, not sure if this is too much to ask!
If we can change the emails why not SMS?
Such is Android...
You don't need to get an app to change SMS sound. I have Yaata installed but still changed the SMS sound via the hub.
It depends on your SMS app. For example, I have a Verizon Priv and I use the Verizon Messages+ app for texting. Within the app I can change the default text notification sound, plus, I can also change each individual contacts notification sound.
It all depends on which app you use and the customization allowed.
I kept all the original sounds for my blackberry, text, email & ringer
What steps exactly did you take to change the notification sound for all Yaata text messages?
You go into Setting in the main app page itself. There's a section for notifications. Pick a sound from the list for "sounds".
Pretty much every SMS/messaging app has this - whether pre-installed by the manufacturer (Samsung has their own), or carrier (like Verizon), or one you find on Google Play (like Yaata, Textra, Chomp, Google's own Android Messages, or any other such app).
I couldn't find the settings in Verizon app to change sounds. How did you do it.
Should be the same as on my Priv. Three dots in the upper right corner, Customize. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...57ab010d32.jpg
You can also customize each contact the same way.
It took me a little while of changing the notifications in the hub, then waiting for a text/email/whatsapp to arrive, realizing it hadn't changed, scratching my head, coming on crackberry and then seeing a post that finally solved the problem!
it worked for me by going into the apps separately, rather than through the hub. Realizing that I needed to go into the Google Apps to change my hotmail.com notifications through Gmail was the real game changer.
Good luck! it takes a little time to navigate easily, but it's less than a week for me and I'm speeding around now.
