Chrome is just so vulnerable it lets spam messages through and interferes with the calendar as well, I don't want this sh|t on my phone, can I remove it completely?

I doubt it. On a rooted smartphone or whatever it would be doable, but BlackBerry allows none of that, and Google doesn't allow Chrome to be deleted I believe

I was hoping at least I could remove it from the updates, if not I can't set "update automatically all apps" but need to update manually. Bit of a pain.
I just wonder how come is so stupidly vulnerable, all people I know I advise to remove it and/or not use it anymore, the result is invariably that unsolicited messages stop.

No but you can uninstall updates and disable the app.

You can't uninstall it but you can disable and download another browser.

Just disable Chrome and you are good to go. I recommend the Samsung Browser. Works very well. I disable Chrome on all my Android devices.

The alternative browser I used instead of Chrome was Keyboard Browser. (still have as a backup)

Now I use Duckduckgo as my daily driver for surfing/online needs. Like Keyboard Browser, no spam issues but faster in speed and gets frequently updated.

Chrome...no thanks that's why it's never been used.

Android and chrome are connected because both are products from google. So I doubt it will let you remove or delete it completely. But you can disable it for sure. When you disable it you will be able to uninstall updates as well.
To do this go to settings --> Application Manager --> list of installed apps --> Chrome --> Disable and follow the rest of the instructions.

*** my opinion duckduckgo is the best alternative.
