I just ordered a KEYone from telus. I'm finally switching from my original passport to the KEYone. I know there was an issue with the screens lifting, then BlackBerry confirmed they solved the issue. My question is, are there still units floating around inventories that weren't fixed by BlackBerry yet? Should I worry about getting one that hasn't yet been fixed?

There is a post around here on how to check the build date. If it's correct mine was built July 17th. Well after the issue and hopefully the new attachment method was used. I got mine from Best Buy yesterday.

Can somebody post of picture of where to find the build date on the box?
Also, is there a specific date or anytime July and later would be okay?

Do the Dial *#2886# test, hit MANU then PASS, there's your build date on bottom, then hit PASS again, scroll to bottom and hit Exit

I don't have the KEYone yet which is why I was wondering if the info is available elsewhere.

Some more glue is needed. My sensor glass fell off.

Looks like your device sufferred a hard fall or other damage, from the look of the upper right corner. The trim around that sensor looks like it has a bit of scuff damage as a result. You think that might have anything to do with it? Not saying it should just fall off from a fall, but that looks a bit more extensive.

You are right is has suffered a fall 3 weeks ago. But the glass just fell off weeks later. It was just as the glue was melted and very soft. It looked just is came out from the heat then the fall.

Usually the production date is printed outside on the box. E.g. 020517 for may 2nd. I would refrain from purchasing one that was built before mid July.

That's a boxing date, not a production date. That said with the current production schedule, I would expect those dates to be pretty close.

But in the past, you could by a Passport or any BB10 device that might have a boxing date... years after the stopped making them.

Yes. But it's the first & only chance to get a clue of when approx it was produced, unless you open the box, start up the K1, and perform the queries on the device. Also, a boxing date before mid July definitely means production happened before mid July. So a boxing day after mid July increases the chances for getting an ok unit. Therefore I would not take a K1 that was produced/boxed before mid July.

P.S. if BBMo wanted to sell more units also to people like me & others who are concerned about the screen lift issue, they would 1. recall potentially failing units and 2. release a glass clear statement about from when on the units are ok and how to identify those.
But that's potentially considered as being too costly. For us users, this means that they put us consciously into a casino situation - the screen might last, or not. Yes, they committed to replace such units, but who wants to consciously deal with that hassle?

Don't buy used units. Buy from an authorized reseller that's been selling out. For example, JerryRig bought one from Amazon and it survived his tests.

I ordered 2, from authorized resellers that were sold out for weeks. The first one arrived last week, the other one yesterday. Both had a boxing date of 020517, so clearly before the screen issue was "addressed". Means, either the producer or the distributor still ships potentially problematic units.
Of course I took none of the two.

you've probably got an overall 25 per cent chance of screen lift. it's 50 50 if you get one that's before they fixed the glue and then a 50 50 chance of it not holding. as others has said I've had mine a few days short of 4 months here in the UK and no issue whatsoever

Mine was manufactured 27 April. Had it 3 months already. No problems. Screen shows no sign of lifting. Have not tried a 'bend test' - I'm not an *****.

I have purchased mine from Clove in May. There are no signs of screen lift so far. But as mentioned above the glass of sensor felt off some days ago. Anyway I managed to fix it with the original glue that was attached on it.

All TCL had to do was to add a soap powder type sticker to the box "Now with added glue!" (or something like that). Then the buyer would know.
But I suppose their lawyers have told them not to, as it might be interpreted as acknowledging the 'glue deficit syndrome' of ALL the earlier units.

I think that the glue's problem with some (or all?) units of the 1st batch is heat-related.
So, no big deal, reattach your sensor with a better glue,
and for the screen use the 3M adhesive tape.
Better go pre-emptive, btw, with the screen, to avoid cable tore disaster.
Done that on mine (mfg date May 2017), now no more fear.

Thank you for your reply. Your suggestion is better that what I've done. Using the old glue probably it will melt again due to heat.
I will try to put some new glue on it.
