I gave my wife my old KeyOne BE as she needed to depend on some more apps for school. Rather than hop back to BB10, I scored an S7 Edge w/ the keyboard attachment that I used for awhile. Wow, was it ever a reminder of how superior BB's keyboard experience is! It was an inventive attachment (didn't even use bluetooth or any external battery), but it was too squishy and of course didn't have backlighting. The S7 edge has a nice design and camera is lovely, but I just couldn't adapt to the attachment nor just using it a slab.

Recently, I saw a KeyOne Silver Edition for sale for $50CAD. I went for it. Am I glad I did. It had a flatlined battery but I installed an aftermarket one in under 5 min for only $15CAD.

The KB is so nice in comparison. Battery life is far superior, especially with the fresh new battery. It just all around feels good and I like the extra heft of the build. The S7 Edge felt so fragile. You don't realize what you have until it's gone!

That said, the one achilles heel for me is the rear camera, specifically. The front camera? No problem and takes a more than decent pic. But that rear camera? Utter garbage. I've tried every combo of manual vs. auto settings, different apps, cleaning the glass, etc. Nothing seems to improve the outcome -- everything is foggy and dark. I see a lot of threads that say the KeyOne camera is decent and better than the Key2 -- I find that hard to believe somehow. Am I missing something? Could it be a bad/dying module? I'm not opposed to replacing parts as needed.

Maybe I'll keep that Edge hanging around for a bit for some snaps. Heck, even my old Q5 takes better pics. That said, am generally am a happy camper being back on the KeyOne but would appreciate any camera tips so I can hate that part a little less.

You could try replacing the camera lens. Maybe it's just dirty. The K1 camera is pretty good.

That so? Wow...that hasn't been my experience at all. Do you mean in terms of specs? I thought the Priv was the nicest rear camera.

But I'll try whatnow's suggestion. Hopefully it's just dirty and I can clean it out.

That's what I'm wondering. However, my wife's BE gives similar results when pics are taken.

These were taken AFTER a cleaning. So you're suggesting the camera module as a whole would need to be replaced? Ebay is a bit scarce for those right now, which I expected. Any recommended parts suppliers that ship to Canada? TIA!

That's what happened to my KEY². The outer lens broke, then when I tried cleaning the inner lens on the actual camera module before replacing the outer lens, I scratched it up so the pictures turned out fuzzy just like yours do.
You could start by taking off the outer lens and lightly blowing it out with compressed air, then very carefully wipe it off to test.

Thank you for confirming I'm not losing my mind! Yes, they're painfully bad. The front camera is so much clearer. We both got great deals on the KeyOne, so figured a few parts might be wonky.

Years ago I bought a laptop fan from them and all was good fwiw. I see the camera is not that expensive. I would go for it if it was me needing it.

I was also not happy at all with the rear camera, and after reading the_boon's comment that this was the best camera on a Blackberry, I bought the complete camera module from the UK on eBay, so I will report back as well.

Wish you all a fix. I have always been quite impressed with my BE KeyOne. Here is a shot from this AM. In daylight (and all but the lowest light) for everyday shots it's as good as my S9 was (and that was a great single lens camera)
