I find it frustrating having to activate the lighted keyboard to see and use the three mapping buttons (back, home, Square). Any other options?
Perhaps assign a keyboard shortcut for these functions?

Cover the light sensor with your finger lol. No apps that I'm aware of can do it.

Even in a dark room, the keyboard and map buttons go out long before the screen. Would like options for this, including the ability to go off and on in conjunction with the screen. I agree with the op, it's slightly frustrating.
