I've been using a BBB100-3 on Verizon for a couple years now, but haven't seen an update in ages. Still on the Feb 5th, 2019 security patch level.

Are all updates done for good?

I've just fired up mine, in Spain, bought in the UK.
I've checked for updates and there aren't any. So, I'm going to be stuck on
    ABS154 5th March 2019

Very close to the exact 2 years of Android updates.

When you bought the device is irrelevant - update timelines are based on that device's release, and more specifically, on the release date of the first device in that family. So any sub-models of the K1 or new variations that are released later are still on the release timeline of the original K1.

This is not specific to BB or BBMo/TCL - this is how ALL smartphone manufacturers operate.

Apple does not throw their phones under the bus quite as quickly.

The iPhone 6s was released in September 2015 and will be getting iOS 13.

Tony was referring to when the clock starts ticking. He made no reference to who’s better, worse or anything regarding that.
