I had my K1 and my Priv side by side today and whoa, what a difference. The K1 seems some dim and dreary (with back light set on full), next to the Priv. Don't know how much more it would have cost, but Darn, they should have gone with a better display. Such a HUGE difference.

I prefer the more natural colors of the lcd but it's no apple display, just missing that last bit of quality. AMOLED can look great but seem hyper saturated when looking at photos

Now take your KEYone and Priv outside in direct sunlight and describe the differences. I look forward to your observations.

I prefer my K1 display any day over my S6. The white is crisp and totally white with no tint and the display in bright sunlight is far clearer. Using the adaptive brightness I never need to alter the settings - well impressed.

Happy with what we have. Don't believe it was meant to have bells and whistles of all top of the range phones.

I'm glad it doesn't have the issues we had with PRIV. The ones it may have will be fixed under warranty.

The combination of factors clearly puts the KEYone ahead. the battery life alone is worth it really. The screen is plenty bright enough. and color reproduction is quite good. As long as the green doesn't pop off, I'm good. Lol

Add another one who prefers the true colour reproduction of LCD displays!

I agree, the Keyone was not meant to have all the bells and whistles of the other flagships.

By green, you meant screen..right ? Lol

Im actually seriously thinking about buying a new PRIV as a secondary to my KEYone. Anyone recommend ?

Lol, I don't know about the panels BB used, but ever since the Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung has made their SuperAMOLEDs brilliant in Direct Sunlight.

LCD display technology has reached it limits... mostly pushed by Apple. I think that we have seen the last few devices with LCD.

I was surprised that the KeyOne was launched with an LCD display whereas AMOLED is much more energy efficient.

I think the idea of the lcd was to make a phone that would last all day and work in any lighting conditions and I believe they achieved that. Today I took the priv out instead of my keyone and I am at 57 percent battery in just 3.5 hours of use. My keyone normally isn't this low until after a full days work and I am at home. yesterday had about the same usage on my keyone and I was at 64 percent when grilling at around 7:30 in the evening. So if it means I don't have to connect it to a charger until Bedtime I am gonna go with the LCD screen

So you're basically saying that LCD uses less energy than AMOLED. That means that unless the guy with the amoled screen is constantly on dark backgrounds/black backgrounds (with pixels using less energy) then the guy with the LCD will always win on battery?

To my knowledge, can't compare priv to K1 in that aspect as processor also greatly affects battery performance.

To do this really accurately would be to swap out the 808 for a 625 in the priv or vice versa in the K1 and use same backgrounds and see which lasts longer

I think it's all software optimization, not the screen. The brightness auto adjustment on my PRIV was slow to non-existent. I believe the BlackBerry used stock Android for this feature. On my S7 Edge...it gets nice and bright in full sun, and very quickly. No issues.

Well, I can't replace processors however I can use both and clearly state that in every aspect my Keyone out performs my PRIV. It is faster performance wise not on paper , it doesn't lag, doesn't heat up, and the Batteries can't even be compared because before this day is over I will have had to go to a charger three times. I never charge during the day with the Keyone. I use it all day and only put it on the charger at night before bed. In the end that big pretty screen on the PRIV is using a large part of that energy I tend to keep my display brightness way down on the PRIV but at about 60% on the Keyone. If I ran my PRIV at that amount it kills the battery. I can say that I had to send my keyone back for the screen pop out issue and I went back to the PRIV while out for repair and I could not wait to get the Keyone back.

Multiple references, but I can't recall them. But from what I gather, you are correct that AMOLED uses less energy than an LCD; the caveat is that this is true when there are lots of black. Measuring AMOLED energy consumption is not so simple as it's dynamic, whereas LCD is constant. Where LCDs have the upper hand is when displaying lots of text on a white background.

The other knock on AMOLEDs that the blue LED wears/burns out quickly relative to the yellow and red LEDs. This phenomenon manifests itself as a drift towards a "greenish" hue over time which the user often does not notice. But I can definitely see and notice this on my 2-year old Priv compared to my Keyone.

This was particularly true and a big issue with AMOLEDS from 3-5 years back. Power efficiency and brightness/wear have improved since then. But it's still an issue.

Rumor has it AMOLED screen availability is getting squeezed big time this year. That may have put small-volume users out of the running.

It's very possible since Apple is planning to move to AMOLED, and no one wants to refuse an order from them.

Have you seen LG's amoled TVs? Lcd tvs don't come close. There's a reason why their amoled TVs are extremely expensive.

AMOLED had came a long way and is technologically much more superior than LCD. Also, they give a lot more flexibility by being thinner, brighter, more battery efficient and can only lit up one pixel... just to name a few advantages.
