With the rumors of a "Lite" version lurking around it got me thinking.

Could it possibly be a version of the KEY2 without the capacitive nav buttons, less RAM, and possibly running Android One/Android Go OS?
    Thoughts anyone?

    Could be most anything....

But I don't think it will be a different version of Android, that would require too much work on BlackBerry and BBMo part.

    You see plastic as cheap

I see it as less weight therefore less chance of something breaking if dropped

Try dropping a Galaxy S4 from a table, then do the same with an S8

Not so simple... See characteristics of plastic are highly variable depending on the chemical composition, structure, and the ability to absorb lateral impact by objects & surfaces. As well the characteristics of protection from a falls has to do with the materials to which the item impacts, the angle of incidence, whether solid or some other surface possibly allowing for absorption of the developed inertia. I don't believe discussion of this is simple at all.

The key is to offer a lower cost option.... if they can do that with plastic that's just fine. I'd still put it in a case and no one would know.

But it's still going to depend on what they try and sell it for. A SD636 4GB/32GB for $399 would be great! Even $450 would be a nice entry point.

If it gets to $499 or even $549.... will be a tough call. Buy a KEYone (if it's still around) or bump up to the KEY2.

Leak indicates same body size and 2 cameras.

I would highly doubt they would re-engineer the keyboard with the same form factor.

My guess is 32GB storage, 4GB RAM, and downgraded processor 625/636 for $150 less at $499.

Its a shame the Key2 has those capacitive nav buttons. I'd love for the "lite" to have 4GB ram but on screen nav buttons.

Considering the Motion is $449, I don't see this phone being under $500.

I believe that the only difference apart of the color will be less RAM and less storage capacity.

Between KEYᵒⁿᵉ and Key2, surely a "lite" version is a KEYᵒⁿᵉ BE?

Any difference in-between is just pointless, unless there are significantly different features.

636 is a different beast than the 625.

    It's 4xA73+4xA53 just like the 660.

I'd be shocked if they had on-screen buttons because in all likelihood they're reusing the same screens from the K1 and K2.

Personally I wish a Key2 Plus with more thickness to accommodate a far larger battery.

    A flop.

TCL needs 2-3 more years to improve design and production levels. Watching closely the Key2 forum and it's disappointing to see another "pay us to be a beta tester" .

Personally, I prefer capacitive keys as opposed to on-screen. Its always there, which defeats the need to call out the on-screen buttons each time it goes full screen. 0.5ms quicker to go home.

Many phones have the option in display settings to make the nav bar permanent no matter what app you're on. It's a non-issue

It is, but if the phone is ever going to be updated to Android P the buttons will just be in the way of the built in gesture navigation.

More so Android by default shows it all the time, they are only starting to move to gesture based navigation in P. It only goes away when apps go full screen.

We have seen Apple do similar things before, I would guess we get an identical shell and even camera to the Key2 with otherwise same internals as Keyone black edition for 549, then we see black Keyone drop to 500 and silver drop to 400.

Perhaps not a popular guess, but it makes sense to me. Oreo at launch and privacy shade and locker added.

I mean, I'd still buy that if it meant I could have my Black KeyOne in red, though the smaller battery has me a bit worried. I'd hate to ever let my phone get below 30% battery...
