    KEY² commercial link:

So, during the KEY² launch event we got to see a new advert (advert/commercial, take your pick) for the KEY². The first time I watched it I really liked it. I like the direction they went in with the scripting; as it's been said in the podcast - they're all questions and comments that BlackBerry users are often faced with from non BlackBerry users. Various positive qualities about the KEY² are raised, but at 30 seconds long it feels like it's over so quickly. A couple of the scenes come across as being a bit corny, perhaps that's a difficult thing to avoid in an advert that's basically a series of staged scenarios. I do like the way there is a strong reference to it as "a BlackBerry", it plays on the assertion that it's still a 'type' of device as opposed to just being a brand of smartphone. I really hope they put some money behind getting this advert out there and i'm optimistic that it will drag some ex-BlackBerry users back to trying one out, but I couldn't possibly estimate how many. Did the advert live up to your expectations? Share your thoughts.

I think that K2 advertorial was nice. And it can be stretched a bit more as well. Prolly it is - and they 'cut' it for impact in that live event. Nonetheless, the Passport infomercials were great (sad that they weren't played too often) and the K2 should follow suit. I like the K2* and would love to see it succeed.

    *including a K2.LITE, which replaces the K1

A longer version would be good for the advert and trailer section of cinema screenings. If I can find a BlackBerry KEY² car sticker somewhere online i'd be happy to put one in my rear windscreen to give them a helping hand!

I think it is a bold and smart commercial. No pun intended. I think it answers the questions most non-BlackBerry fans have that we hear often. Yes, that's a keyboard. Yes, BlackBerry still exists. Yes, it's full Android. It highlights that it is secure and has great battery life. My favourite is the ending lines.

"I used to love my BlackBerry."
    "I still do."

Sums up how us fans feel. But piques the curiosity of past fans.

It’s 30 seconds because that’s stand commercial measurement. Common lengths are 15/30/45/60 seconds. General thoughts are longer than 30 seconds for most products lose effectiveness. Good commercial as it addresses brand reputation and placement.

Not sure how much you’ll see if carriers don’t support device though. BBMo/TCL doesn’t have any serious cash to launch any real advertising campaign. About the only prime time BBMo/TCL can afford right now is next game of Stanley Cup.

And the sales staff who work for them. From what i've read on these forums they can be a hindrance for in-store sales.

The KEY2 ad should have been used for the KEYONE.

That’s unfortunately a limit of BBMo not having the cash to pay for sales incentives. Nowadays, people walk in knowing what device they want anyway, iPhone, Android flagship, or whatever’s on sale.

Maybe the ad will make people wonder about the Keyone since it is about the Key2. I think it is meant to benefit both versions.

I've been looking for a link to that version of the ad, but can't seem to find it. The only one that shows up is the 'specs' version that shows a few frames from the 'people' version.

    Anyone have a link?

The whole cell phone industry is 'spiff' driven. Meaning that some company spiffs a phone, so that if you sell model X you get a bonus commission. It is so obvious when you want into a store, they are selling your their bias, or what is spiffed.

I thought the Ad was very well done. Way better than what they have done in the pas. However I worry that it reinforces the fact that noboy knows or cares about BB anymore. The week minded may think "I don't want people to ask me why I have something different!". But I am not a marketing specialist, so we'll see.

Exactly. At the end of the day yeah the ad speaks to us loyalists that's it. Blackberry is done as a smart phone giant. It will never ever appeal again to the masses. But I could care less. It's great to be part of this niche group of die hards that celebrate this brand especially those of us who are Canadian.

If I could change the advert in one way it would be to include a scene of someone trying one out and saying something along the lines of "wow, i'd forgotten how good these are" or "it just feels so right" - essentially showing the sceptic become a believer and trying to promote the idea of trying it out before you dismiss it as being out dated.

TCL is certainly more apt at making ads. Anyone still remember the awful creepy priv ads? With the lady running from some shadowy figure? Bizarre. The name of the phone itself was creepy too. Brutal.

I was watching some E3 coverage and noticed Nintendo might have used the same actress for the Super Mario Party commercial as in the KEY2 spot.
