    Hello.
First, you must know that I'm french, which means I needed to customize my "sym" key to use certain accents. Like, sym+E now writes É, works like a charm.
I found that thanks to this thread ( https://forums.crackberry.com/blackb...cents-1132326/ )
    Very cool astuce.

But the thing is, it opens a second, virtual keyboard whenever I press the sym key. Is there a way to hide this virtual keyboard, whilst keeping the ability to change the keyboard layout by pressing the SYM key ?

Hope my request is clear...Thanks for your help! Much love. ♥

Usually when you hold the “e” key, you can add accents

Yes but there's a short delay, and you then have to point at the screen to pick which one you want. For the letter "e" in french, there are 4 different types of accents : ê, é, è, ë
So it's much easier for me to just press the SYM key + another key to get the proper letter right away. :P

Use Word Substitution in the BlackBerry Keyboard settings.

For example, I have $ set to ss so every time I double press the 's' key the result is '$'

What do you do for words that has double "s" in them?

As long as you don't hit space after the shortcut it will be ignored so you are good!

What happens if it ends with “ss”? Like “unless”

Just add a dot and you are good!

By the way, it doesn't have to be 'ss'. You can do any other combination.

So, there's no way to disable the virtual keyboard ?

    "Otherwise just use autocorrect lol"
Can be a bit random, I don't like to rely on such things usually. Accuracy is the reason I bought a phone with a physical keyboard after all.

"Use Word Substitution in the BlackBerry Keyboard settings. "
Will check this one out, thanks.

There isn't; not when using the SYM key.

Nothing. It's the first letter sequences that triggers it.

Too bad! I hope this becomes an option someday.

you can disable the word suggestions, so at least that part of the on screen keyboard will be gone. The sym will still appear though
