The point is that Motorola sold the division to Google who then dumped to Lenovo and Motorola licenses the brand through original sale arrangement. The employees are now all Lenovo employees.

Sorry for being pedantic but that's still not right. Motorola Mobility exists as an entity that is owned by Lenovo. It still has a headquarters in Chicago and it's own employee structure.

It's nothing like the BlackBerry/TCL deal.

The point is that Motorola is not involved. It’s a directly owned subsidiary of the China Inc and that’s no different than BBMo HQ in California at time of initial licensing deal.

The point is the parent company isn’t Motorola and hasn’t been for a long time.

Nope. Motorola split into two companies long ago. Motorola Mobility (the phone piece) still exists as an entity owned by Lenovo. Same company as always. Not at all similar to TCL and BB.

That’s no different than everything we’ve been saying. It’s the same products introduced and sold for the last 12-18 months. That would be like an entire display of iOS hardware of XS, XSMax, XR and X without anything newer. That’s just maintaining some contract requirements so BB can’t pursue violation of contract legal requirements.

That wouldn't necessarily say anything at all. They have their demo devices and don't need to use a new demo device.

I’ve been saying that BBMo is effectively dead. That is what I said in my previous comment. The BB licensing is hollowed out at this point.

They probably will, and when asked, they'll tell you that upcoming BB devices are "being worked on" but they don't yet have a release date. And someone will immediately post here that a new device is coming because a rep said so.

In reality, TCL is just running out the clock on the license contract doing the bare minimum to meet their contractual obligations.

Blackberry is still part of their device brands and they still sell the Blackberry Key 2 and Key 2LE why wouldn't they have them there? Apple still has XR, X, iPhone 8's available for sale. The XR was even on demo at an Apple store here in Sacramento CA.

The moment Pie didn't come by Sep, it seemed pretty obvious what was happening. Combine that with abysmal sales, and no leaks (which usually come out 6 months prior to a device launch), and the situation becomes fairly clear.

The last of BBMo's devices looses software support in August. People need better lead-time than that.

I agree with you. It is premature to emphatically insist that BlackBerry Mobile is "dead" "done" and "hollow" and "dumping" and "running out the clock" to use some of the terms. It may not be meant this way, but it comes across as though they find some pleasure and glee at tearing them down. Negatively feeds on itself. Some of BlackBerry Mobile's struggles have to do with the negative vibe that is going out. Why not let things play out and hope for good outcome, or simply "let it be". Eventually time will pass and the contract will either be renewed or not renewed. They will either produce a new BlackBerry phone or they won't.

All TCL would need to do to create excitement and renewed enthusiasm would be to tell us that a new device is, in fact, coming. The fact that they haven't speaks volumes.

I'm the biggest BlackBerry-brand fan around, but at some point reality sets in.

At the TCL CES news event the TCL rep said that all TCL products would have their new screen technology and advanced cameras.

With foldable phones coming and new Alcatel products there just is no room at the inn for BlackBerry.

One possibility might be a slider version but I can’t see a payback for the investment required.
