Until the actual launch date, I was keeping my fingers crossed hoping to see a trackpad in the new Key2. Although I am severely disappointed, I wonder if I can still continue my wait for a trackpad version coming out sometime within a year or two.

What about the keyboard?
Look for pointer mode for use with the keyboard

KEY2 is a no for the trackpad unfortunately. Maybe one day they'll make one with a trackpad BUT we shouldn't expect it. Nothin wrong with dreamin tho...nothin at all :-)
A trackpad makes 0 sense with android.
.... You're gonna be waiting longer than 2 years....
OP, I'm with you. I miss the trackpad as well, although I had no hopes to see it on the Key2. Indeed I doubt we will ever see another phone with trackpad, which is very sad.
Selecting text with trackpad and executing other functions just can't be matched with any other method in my opinion. I wonder why the little gained 'realestate' is worth so much to so many people, who are passionately resisting the trackpad.
I'm trying to figure out what in the world made you guys think this phone would have a trackpad ??
if they find a way to integrate a trackpad while keeping the touch sensitive keyboard that might be a a good combo to make the key3 appealing
A trackpad for such big screen estate would be madness
The trackpad on the Classic I've actually hardly ever used, as I came from the 9700 - and there it worked and made sense and it was much more integrated in the OS than on BB10.
And rightly so, with such a big screen now with the k1/k2 it would be "madness".
However, if there was a new pointer mode by maybe double clicking the keyboard - such as it exists already but only is working for text fields (afaik) - that would be a good compromise I guess?
Madness? IMHO, a trackpad with a such a big screen makes more sense. To keep from having to reach all the way to the top of the screen to click a link or just move around a page.
It's just hard to believe how people forget or didn't realize using the trackpad on the Classic (for example) u NEVER had to touch the screen unless u wanted to. Could use the trackpad to navigate homepages and could click apps / files to open. Same with editing text and browsing. How does that not make sense on a BiGGER screen?
The ease or difficulty of integrating that into Android is debatable but the argument against it for being difficult is gettin weaker given the new Android Oreo gestures, etc. So it would be people who just don't want it for wutever crazy reason, not because it's IMPOSSIBLE, lol.
My wife hated trackpad on her Classic, though she came from earlier (pre-BB10) devices. 100% does not miss on her Key1. FWIW.
Like I mentioned before: try pointer enabled mode to use the keyboard as a touchpad for one handed use.
If BBM ever does make a trackpad model, I don't see that happening before a minimum of 2 years.
Oh btw, I would be all in for a trackpad

Just hope that this pointer mode is still possible on the Key2 like it was on the KeyOne. Very few people know about this even for the keyOne since it was tucked away

A trackpad in the classic didn't have any sense and on Android? Come on! Who needs a trackpad nowadays?

The keyboard is the track pad. I use it all the time on my K1. hope it's better on the K2! I
Having no experience with the Key1, how do you select text?
What are the steps to point and select?
Is there then a keyboard shortcut (like 'alt + c') that copies, or do you have to reach for popped up screen commands to select copy?
Then can you just point somewhere and simply press 'alt + v' to paste?
One could say the same thing about a keyboard. ... and many do.
Thanks. Did not know you could do that on KEYone
As many have pointed out, the world seems to have forgotten that once upon a time, we could navigate a cursor though text, and do associated selection/copy/paste/cut, on the first try rather than the 13th. Only the iPhone’s bubble comes a distant second to any sort of practical capability, Android’s functionality on this front is a total joke.
Thanks!!
I did this on my K1 BE last week and it works beautifully
Deleted comment because this wasn't the feature I thought was being discussed. Ugh!
I tried it a couple times but there's a step that I can never get past. U have to run the ADB program on ur computer to be able to add the commands to the "Global Table"? :-/
