i get plenty of signal bars, can receive email or text but cannot make calls. When I try, it tries to connect and then times out. Any ideas?

You probably didn't connect the antenna cable well, or whoever made the repair...

I had a shop do it, returned it to them to ensure it was connected and they say it is. If the antenna was not connected, I would deduce that it would not be getting data, email/text as well.

I had same symptoms after I replaced battery on DTEK50 and it was badly pressed connector on anthena cable as far as I know, because it doesn't have any problems now... I was dropping calls all the time, but my bars were ok???

Strange about data, never checked that, because I was at home on WiFi and making phone calls. I spotted a problem an reopened to check and found lose connection. It might not be your case but if it doesn't bother bother you much do a factory reset, just to test it's not some software glich

Ok. How hard was it to change the screen yourself? This is another example of having to do everything yourself in order to get it right.
