I sent an email earlier today to the email address listed in the app asking if it's an AT&T issue or a KEY2 issue. I haven't received a response yet, and if and when I do, I will post an update.

Just use the trick in the first post. Takes less time than sending an email.

Chat features status now showing "Connecting" using the technique mentioned earlier (install Activity Launcher...). Still showing connecting 10 minutes later (on At&T).

Maybe it was supposed to say BBM has been dead for a decade. Here in USA it wasn’t ever really a thing like SMS/MMS even today
In general I agree.... because let's be honest even at their height BlackBerry only had 80 Million global users.

But around 2007, about everyone I know in business had a BlackBerry and BBM was HUGE as a means of communication. Back then even here in the US we were still paying for texting plans. Fast forward a few years and texting was unlimited and iPhones and Android were taking over the smartphone market, plus most people were still on dumb phones... texting went back to being the default. When smartphones really took off around 2011/2012 it stayed the best way to communicate with anyone. smartphone/dumbphone, Apple, Blackberry or Android... it just worked.

RCS is only going to work if all carrier support the same standard and all phones.... as it is it will be a nice feature with some of your contacts.

Would 80 Million users back then not constitute the majority of Smart Phone users at that time? That would be a market locked down, no?

If you get success going this route on AT&T please post an update... Thanks.

At the introduction of Android/iOS, in 2007-2008, BlackBerry had user base of 8-13 million users and growing. BlackBerry didn’t reach it’s peak of 70-80 million until 2011-2012 or so and remained around that until 2013-2014 or so. In that same time frame, iOS grew from 1-2 million per year to over 150 million per year. I believe the user base was estimated about 350-400 million conservatively at BB 70 million average. Most of that 70 million had stopped growing in 2011 and by 2014 was in less developed markets transitioned from developed countries. So their was no real growth after 2011 but swapping for lower margins. At time of 80 million high mark, BB smartphone piece of the market accounted for 5% of that space. In 2008-2009, Apple had about same market share as BlackBerry and never looked back. Android was of course far bigger still in same time frame. It’s a myth that BlackBerry ever dominated in terms of market share once Android/iOS entered the space as consumer device. There wasn’t ever a point that BB had the market locked down. It was merely the first liquid gold at top of the geyser.

Chat "Connecting" still showing an hour later. The good news is that texting doesn't seem to be disabled as a message or two has come in since I attempted to enable RCS. I rebooted (warm boot) and Chat still shows "connecting".

As you read above I'm not getting to the place to input my phone number. I know you are on AT&T and I assume you are using a KEY2?

Thanks for the update...👍 If anything changes let me know please. It appears AT&T isn't on board with RCS yet, at least with the KEY2. No surprise unfortunately... 😰

I've not received a response to my email to Google about this and if I do I will honestly be surprised.

I have been reading article that rcs works in Canada if you do a few things with an app. Activity launcher. Anyway I tried it today and it worked. Did some test texting with my son. One thing I did have to do was turn my fonts to smallest or you cannot hit the apply button in lost of how to.

hi, just curious... does this RCS solution require CARRIER SERVICES to be enabled/installed?

Yes I believe I did install it or it was installed. Then installed activity launcher and went through those steps. One thing is you have to have the beta messages app. Playstore easy. I did it on my wifes motoz3 and didnt bother to clear the cache part and it worked there as well. I never had to install the carrier services on hers either. Not sure if it was there or not before doing the activity launcher stuff.

And this morning when I check Messages/Settings/Chat Features I see "connecting" again (US Key2 on At&T). The puzzle remains.

I can only assume it's something on the AT&T side of things with the KEY2 as others have been able to get their KEY2s to activate RCS on other carriers.
