    Factory reset device and disabled non-used apps e.g. Gmail, Duo etc and overnight these apps were all updated by the Play Store with newer versions and set to enabled on the device. Is there some way to stop this behavior - I didn't want them so why update them?

    It shouldn't do that. I have many disabled apps that remain inert - including gmail. Are you sure you didn't just force close them instead of actually disabling them?

    No I actually disabled them. Also, I had auto update turned off. It was all of the Google apps and BlackBerry tasks.

    I don't know what to say then - that just shouldn't happen.

    Any chance you did a system update with an autoloader?

    same here, disabled apps remain disable and not updated by play store
