Aren’t OEMs forced into variants because the specific OEM is weak and specific carriers force these weak OEMs to make limited use devices to slow down churn?

That's a US thing I guess. But by the looks US isn't even a primary focus for BlackBerry Mobile.

In another thread -3, -4, -5 and -6 variants listed by Thurask. I just figured those give opportunities for North American (primarily USA) carriers.

Of those only 1 of them is really North American specific. Seems like the variant lineup is identical to the KEYone except 1 and 2 reversed like the Motion.

Uneducated guesses:

1 - EMEA
2 - Canada/US/LATAM/APAC GSM
3 - US CDMA
4 - China
5 - Dual SIM global (??)
6 - Japan

Only the -4 (China) and -6 (if I had to guess, the -1 but dual-SIM) have been sighted, the rest are filling in gaps.

Think the bigger question is why are they even bothering with variants... Essential has one global model that does everything to Americas EV-DO CDMA+LTE to TD-SCDMA+LTE in China.

It loses 29, 30, and 66 (i.e. AT&T and Freedom), but gains 19, 26, and 32 (i.e. Italy and Japan). Has to be EMEA.

Seems like it, this part of the documents may give a bit more insight. EMEA and APAC might actually share a model this time, if TD 38 and 40 are home?
