- I have a K2 and my carrier is T-Mobile Germany.
VoLTE and Wifi calling is Part of my contract.
But i can't use this Service.
The Support cummunity of t -mobile can't answer my Question.
Where is the problem?
Greetings

Make sure you explain to them that your device supports the features and that you are paying for them. Also, make sure you have "enhanced LTE" enabled under mobile network settings. Good luck!wippeerfurt likes this.02-17-19 07:35 AMLike 1

- The problem appears to be that many carriers are now blocking the enhanced calling features of VoLTE and WFC from nonsupported devices. This includes phones not purchased from carrier and even some devices that are purchased from carrier. Your carrier in your region, since T-Mobile varies by country, should provide you with a list of supported devices.02-17-19 07:39 AMLike 0

- WFC and VoLte work, on T-Mo, with Key One and Motion, non carrier phones, of course. Key2 DID work on its original OS, so this seems to be (and I believe this had been verified by BBMo) a BB decision. I know, this idea violates long held beliefs. But those who have gone back to the release OS have these services working.02-17-19 12:52 PMLike 0

My carrier, EE UK, told me some months ago that according to their support notes, any BlackBerry Key_x should be able to use WiFi Calling on EE UK (this was during a support call when I was complaining that 2 of their 3 local cell-towers were out of commission) but that I would have to "search on the web for how to do this".
I did have to search the web to find out how to access Wi-Fi Calling on my Key2 ("the hidden screen/menu") - I surprisingly found this information in an article from a men's technology style magazine (whatever that means - https://gstylemag.com/2018/07/14/how...ackberry-key2/) as opposed to on CrackBerry - I assume this is the same instruction set (or very similar to the one) that Summer Moon has posted.
What I can't understand, is why has BlackBerry/TCL (whichever one it is) hidden this functionality?
I certainly had UMA/GAN (Wi-Fi calling) functionality on my Bold 9700 (locked to Orange UK) which I acquired c.9 years ago and I didn't have to hunt for a "hidden screen/menu" back in 2010 (BTW this UMA functionality was even more fantastic as there was no location-locking - eg I could use it in USA to call home to UK for the price of a local UK phone call which was usually part of my minutes bundle anyway - saved me a fortune!).Last edited by BigAl_BB9900; 02-18-19 at 08:37 AM. 02-18-19 07:35 AMLike 0 - My Key2 was purchased independently (Key2 PRD63824001) and therefore, has neither carrier specific software nor is locked to a specific carrier.

Thanks for your recommendation: I'll try and go through the @Summer_Moon post this evening to find out what I missed.02-18-19 09:12 AMLike 0 - The G Style Magazine instructions worked for me - though the result was very fiddly, and every time I do a Key2 Update (eg ABL911) I have to go through the instructions again.

So the trick here is to get back to the original modem file so that you can then do those steps from that article and have it work. Either way, let me know if it works for you. I believe several others have this working now.02-18-19 10:04 AMLike 0 - FWIW, I did find that same article when I was originally trying to get it to work. And those steps would work back when the modem was not changed to remove the WiFi calling. Of course, this could be very dependent on your carrier as some carriers still have the WiFi calling enabled in the latest modems, and then you would only need the WiFi Calling Provisioned toggle to get it to work.

But... it's very fiddly to try and make non-Wi-Fi calls again, you have to fiddle around in settings to turn the functionality off, there is no option (that I have found) to be able to pick Wi-Fi or normal when making a phone call.
When I go and stay somewhere very rural & remote where there is minimal EE coverage, then I just follow the G Style Magazine instructions and leave it on WiFi calling until I come home again.
Hope that makes sense!02-18-19 10:12 AMLike 0 - The G Style Magazine instructions (https://gstylemag.com/2018/07/14/how...ackberry-key2/) still work for me (Key2 unlocked on EE UK - I've just tried it again) and I haven't used the QuickShortCutMaker app either.

If it doesn't end working better for you, you can just write your newer modem back to it (or re-run the whole latest autoloader for your phone).BigAl_BB9900 likes this.02-18-19 10:51 AMLike 1 -
- The question I still have, hopefully that someone can answer, is:
Why has BlackBerry/TCL (whichever one it is) hidden this functionality?megafan2000 likes this.02-18-19 11:16 AMLike 1 - impossible to say. There are a lot of factors. The builds have broad scoped ECID numbers (Enhanced Cell IDs) which is complicated but basically is a way of determining position/location with a "station of origin." Different countries/regulatory bodies/carriers have requirements and restrictions about this number and the accuracy of it. For example, PRD-63825-002 used on T-Mobile in the USA has ECID 10534 assigned in the firmware build. The FCC in the US doesn't recognize the base station that corresponds with that. That does one and only one thing: blocks the wifi calling settings from appearing. If you change ECID to 450, the settings will appear. The modem also has to accommodate all these factors along with the APN settings. Long way of saying I don't know exactly.Summer_Moon likes this.02-18-19 11:34 AMLike 1

Is it likely that BlackBerry/TCL are just shy of upsetting any carriers, so they block/hide this functionality as a default?Last edited by BigAl_BB9900; 02-19-19 at 08:56 AM.
02-19-19 02:55 AMLike 0 - I think it's a 2-way street. It's really hard to say but if I had to guess, T-Mobile USA didn't "certify" ABA044 where wifi-calling was working out of the box. That leads me to believe a change made on the BBMO side caused the break in builds since then.megafan2000 likes this.02-19-19 05:59 AMLike 1
