Four issues: Phone App, Contacts, SMS, and WIN seeing device but no files show in Folder

    Help would be deeply appreciated.

    Key2 ... BBF100-2 ... Android 8.1.0 ... Build ACU282
    - Phone (native) v 11.0
    - Contacts (native) v 2.2047.1.6777
    - Blackberry Hub+ Services also v 2.2047.1.6777

    * The degradation has occured over time
    * Considering all of this, yes, wipe and reset may be the only option - however ...
    - *Really* trying to avoid a wipe and reinstall. It feels like a huge deal - particularly given inability to save / copy / export contacts.
    * Prefer to "fix" functionality rather than alternate apps / hacks
    * I've variously tried: the 4-vibrate hard-reset in trying to solve issues, cleared the app caches, cleared the data (except in Contacts)
    * Running DTEK, occasionally CCleaner and Avast from time to time

    1) Phone App has been getting worse and worse. Hangs, takes a long long time to load. Sometimes now I will have an incoming call ... rings, but the Phone app screen either doesn't appear or it does, but all black (no controls).

Phone history never shows anything more recent than "3 days ago".

I've cleared the cache, cleared the data. No real help at all.

I've cleared the cache for the various BlackBerry Hub+ apps.

I've done the 4-vibrate reboot. I've turned the device off and let it sit.

    2) Contacts: Will not load at all. Hangs. Contacts still show in phone app, but " search" (unsurprisingly) hangs. Scroll to contact and pressing call icon works.

Have not been able to sync to google, copy contacts, or export. Can open a given contact and edit, but the edit won't save.

The original migration of contacts using "Content Transfer" from my BB10 Classic to my Key2 was weird with "work" numbers being saved as "home", and " home" as mobile. Never sorted that out and just kind of decided to live with it.

Can still access "favourites" but cannot add or remove favourite-tag.

    3) SMS - from time to time txts simply don't show up. Pretty much daily - particularly from one contact. Virtual guaranteed to miss txts if I've placed the unit face down (e.g. when I go to bed for the night) (yes, the option is turned on). Drops txts when "face up" too - just not as frequently.

    Hangs sometimes, but infrequently.

Can take several minutes to receive security confirmation codes ... often times they don't arrive at all.

    4) WIN10 ... connecting Key2 to my WIN10. Lenovo laptop through USB C:
    * Have tried different cables
    * Have tried all three ports (2x USB 2, 1x USB 3)
    * not having any other USB (or other) issues with the laptop

    Finds the device, but:
    * no files being seen in the BlackBerry folder
    * no pop-up request on laptop requesting how to use the drive
    * there is a sound-ping of recognition when (dis)connecting the two devices

    5) Gaaaaaaaa

    Thanks.

Something is seriously messed up. Factory reset is unavoidable.

    1) See 5.

    2) You could try different Contacts apps to try and get the contacts exported into one file. Once you have them exported you should import them to a cloud service like Google Contacts or Outlook.
Do you still have your old BB10 device? If so you might be able to download an app from BBW to export at least the ones from there. Bottom line, get the contacts off the device in a safe place because we seriously need to factory reset your device.

    3) Need to try a reset for the hanging part, about the delays... could be a carrier thing too.

    4) Do you have the BB drivers installed on your laptop? When you have the phone plugged in, there should be a notification sitting in the phones notification tray. Tap on that to launch the green rainbow shape - from which you can select charge + data. If the half circle doesn't pop up, you'll probably have to turn your animations back on.

    5) Perform a factory reset or run the wipe autoloader.

    Good luck!

Yeah, was afraid of that. It's been a cascading mess.

    1) Yeah.

    2) I do still have my BlackBerry Classic. I'll fire it up and see about pulling down a contacts app to re-export at least those contacts. Contacts subsequently added to my Key2 are another matter. Will try a contacts app from GooglePlay.

    3) Yes. I suspect the reset will solve a lot. Very nervous about making sure I can save a handful of text message conversations.

    4) Not seeing any icon pop up in notifications when I connect the Key2 to the laptop. Not sure how to turn animations on / off.

UPDATE: Ha! I had charging set to Boost "always on". Turned it off ... laptop and Key2 have connected! /facepalm

Wondering if any of the following might be interfering:
    - DTEK, Avast, Twilight

    5) Yeah. Sigh.

For the text messages you can use an app from Google Play called SMS Backup and Restore, with which you can back up your messages to Google Drive.

Great recommendation on the SMS app. Worked very well with easy access to save to any one of several locations.

    * Any suggestions for a contact app that might be able to grab my contacts from my frozen native-install one?

    * I've considered using a different phone app and contact app instead of the system-provided ones. I do like the BlackBerry hub. I've been concerned that the hub won't work with apps other than the native ones provided. Am I right about that?

    Thx again!
