Are the alt characters on the Key2 red keyboard the same print as the letters? They look equally white as the letters now; whereas, on the original Key2s, the alt keys are darker than the letters.

Seems like the white lettering on red might be brighter from hands-on photos.

Hmm, that's one change I didn't notice about but yes they are definitely white like the alphabet letters, same for my Atomic LE

Oh yeah look at that. I actually like my darker alt chars (original black K2), but I can see why some may prefer they be the same colour as the primary characters.

The issue is mostly a low-light issue: during broad daylight, the darker alt chars look great and are still very readable. But in low-light situations, the backlight is not strong enough to light up the darker alt chars enough. At least on my KEY2.

For my tired old eyes that would be welcome on my Blackberry KEY² Silver. This dark Grey was never my idea of a good idea.

Lol I mean it's not really marketing as that has many different dimensions; however, it's just a satisfying photo to look at haha.

my eyes are not as perfect as they used to be, but the alt characters almost vanish when you tilt the phone sometimes

I just got a Slate LE and noticed that the alt characters are the same print as the letters. My LE has a build date of October 2019. Did they change this at some point? The demo LE models I see in store seem to have darker alt character print these demos likely being the earlier batches of LEs that first came out.

That's strange, my understanding was that the Red KEY2 and Red LE have the white alternate characters, but the Black/Silver KEY2 and Slate/Champagne LE have the darker printed ones.

Could you send a photo of the keyboard on your October 2019 LE ?

And by the way, wow! They still made LE's as late as last October??

    Where did you buy yours?

I got mine at Telus, bought it outright for $480, the 32GB single SIM version. Yes, the label on the device said October 2019. The print on the letters and the alt keys all look the same!

TCL is just full of surprises...

Can anyone explain why they would still build devices as of October 2019 if they're just trying to unload remaining inventory?

Wouldn’t that suggest last software load if device was repurposed unsold inventory from another version?

    No, enough with this.

A build date is a build date.

Also, white paint for the alternate characters on the keyboard was unseen before on a Slate LE.

Yep! Congratulations on getting one of the latest built KEY devices.

Now just waiting for someone to come and say that it's just a 2018 unit that was recalled from a retailer/carrier back to TCL for random reflashing (and creating a new sticker with new build date because... reasons )

Just to double check, I did verify the build date with the other method where you dial *#2886# and the date that I found was indeed 20191019.

    I would, it's nonsense lol.

Your device was a brand new device, built in October 2019.

The white alternate character lettering is pure proof of that.

For example, the Slate LE I'm typing on now has a build date of 09/14/2018, and the alternate character paint is grey.

Conclusion: TCL/BBMo has produced KEY devices as recently as last October.
