Can someone please explain if it works in photo mode or only portrait mode. I notice it photo that it shows up to "4x" . Is that 4 time optical zoom or digital zoom? Does it stop being optical zoom after 2x?

It's 2x optical zoom. It works when you tap the 2x button.
It's really just using the other camera which has twice the focal length. The problem is that this camera isn't nearly as good as the primary one. You're probably better off not using it.
The second camera does allow for a bokeh mode however - and that actually works pretty well.
So if I tap 2x, it uses optical zoom, but if I zoom in to to 3x it reverts to digital? Is there a way to use 2x digital without optical to compare the quality?
Like I said, there is no optical zoom per se. You have two cameras - one of which has twice the focal length of the other.
Everything else is digital.
Yeah I just worked it out, optical zoom only works in portrait mode. And it does produce clearer focal point images with the blurred background. I wish the normal camera mode had optical camera.

Yes get it now. It is optical, but only under proper lighting does it activate.
