Newest renders show an intriguing key on the bottom row (at right) that is labelled with some kind of grid icon.

Any guesses as to what it will be for?

Maybe that button makes the PKB hinge up and reveals the inbuilt ashtray, this can also be used as a secret stash area for whatever you want, money, condom etc.

Hope not. That's what the circle Android button is for.

Hope this does not remove the CTRL key functionality.

Nope. It is reported that is a key that will be customizable for a few different functions of a user's choice.

It can be configured as a modifier key for shortcuts (maybe to enable always-accessible keyboard shortcuts?), or to do other stuff.

<string name="help_overlay_customizable_key_details">You can type faster by using the custom key. For instance, you can set it as the Ctrl key, the shift key, or to quickly switch your keyboard language.</string>
<string name="help_overlay_customizable_key_extra">By default, this key is set to universal shortcuts. You can change it at any time from the Shortcuts and gestures settings.</string>
<string name="tutorial_universal_shortcut_usage_hint_plus_ customkey">Use keyboard shortcuts to launch an app or perform an action quickly. You can set up shortcuts in the Shortcuts and gestures settings. If you don’t want to use this key for shortcuts, you can set it as a custom key (for example, the Ctrl key, the shift key, or the currency key). You can set the custom key in the Shortcuts and gestures settings.</string>

And before someone chimes in about "gestures", it's probably for making swipe up, swipe down, and long press on an icon do different things (popup widget or contextual action).

So, new "grid key" might be a kind of function key? Needs a good name, in my opinion.

Some speculative names for the mystery key:

    Universal Key (Uni-Key)

    Multifunction Key (Multi-Key)

    Omni Key (OK)

    Meta Key

    Let me know your thoughts.

Will this launcher feature be available to the KeyOne or Priv since it is customizable.?

I hope not. I use right shift as control quite often. Very useful for copy, past and cut.

The KEYone's 625 isn't crap, even a year after its release. So I wouldn't worry about the 660 at all. Wtf is it with people bashing a phone if it comes with a processor that is more than 6 months old?? I know tech moves fast but let's just slow the hell down. This whole "latest chipset" hype is ridiculous, reviewers on youtube and tech press would be quick to bash the hell out of a phone that came out in 2018 with an SD835 for example, which basically saw the light of day just over a year ago and is still a more than competent chipset for years to come!
People have to relax with this chipset mentality, but then maybe these boring slabs have nothing innovative/different to bring to the table so the chipset is all there is to talk/whine about?

I think I understand now... seems like a way to access your keyboard shortcuts from any screen. So instead of going to home, hold the Grid key and press the corresponding keyboard shortcut.
