I'm still hanging on to my KeyOne and maybe doing so until the keythree comes out if the camera is still as mediocre as I read during launch.

Some early reviews by some owners even said that the keyone takes better pictures.

So what do you think key2 owners? Any improvements with updates?

IMHO, no. Maybe a little little bit. But far away from "good"

No essential improvements or at least not the improvements we all hoped for. Camera is still not performing adequately to the KEY2 price point

I think the camera is fine. Every camera has strengths and weaknesses - trade-offs. It takes a while to understand them. I always disable the flash. If you are taking pictures into the sun they'll be washed out. Use the editing software.

I have been using Open Camera app and the photo's I took in Hawaii are quite good. Anyone else tried Open Camera on their Key2 and seen improvements?

I did notice a slight improvement in the camera with the last August update. Still a ways to go to make it passable (not great) at this price point.

I am not a specialist in photography but I have used the camera extensively during my last week holidays.
Under day light the photos are better than those of the key one and under portrait mode can have some fantastic shots.
Unfortunately under low light conditions the quality is not good and needs lot of shots and editing to keep a good picture.
To my experience the only BlackBerry which had good quality low light photos was the PRIV.

    I'll second this.

Portrait mode can produce some truly great photos (you don't have to take photos of faces with that mode .. Really it should just be called depth-of-field mode).

Photos in well-lit situations are quite nice.

But yes it does struggle more than the average smartphone when it comes to low light -- but this has been improved somewhat as of the Aug update.

OK good to read that August update has improved it , I am still on the 1st of July.

Absence of OIS on both cameras makes any update useless, it will not make the camera better. The portrait mode can produce nice shots in good lighting conditions, but everything else is very mid-rangey.

It's simple. You can reference the K1 camera updates to predict K2 camera updates/improvements.

camera is not better than key1 with my experience even after Aug update. the portrait shot under direct sunlight is awesome though.

but the video recording is a joke. complete garbage... much worse than key1...

but if key1 camera was fine, you will be OK with key2.

I just can't justify the key2 camera quality being same as key1 with higher price point after one year.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Looks like I'll be holding on to my KeyOne black edition for now. We're getting oreo soon anyways and my KeyOne works well enough.

I also had the KeyOne BE and thought the K2 camera "seemed" too bad from the K2 reviews to be worth an upgrade. HOWEVER - I went for it and IMHO the camera has made huge improvements from the initial version to the curerent-for-me ABA181 update.

The odds of getting a good photo on the K2 has gone from 50/50 usable to more like 90/10 usable. I recently went on a trip with a friend who had an iPhone 7+ and my shots from the Key2 were better across the board. I get that the 7+ isn't new, but no one complains about its cam

I don't think the camera is worth avoiding the Key2 for unless you really take a lot of night/dark photos. (In which case, the K1 isn't exactly a star.) And staying with the K1 means a slower experience, less ram, and a much much much worse keyboard. The keys on the K2 are legit

Here is an album of shots taken on the trip with my friend. Plus I added a few random street pics taken at 8:30pm

Nice photo's, is the photo quality setting set to Standard or Fine?, to be honest I can't tell much difference between the two options

I always leave it in Fine setting, but I think Google compresses them at time of upload to the gallery, so...?

Took this just now using space bar, not aiming and holding it up above me with one hand using the rear facing camera on whatever the default settings are.
I can't see how this is even close to unacceptable. Or something to complain about.

Nice, I turned the watermark off and thought wow how did he do that went into settings and gave it a try, pretty cool, I have no issues with the KEY2 camera
