Can you all please check battery consumption by Google play services and confirm if there is anything odd.

Please check below screenshot, it seems this is not normal to me. It consumed 7% of battery juice.

What could be the reason for this?

Perhaps updates. You can try killing it and see if it makes any difference. I also suggest to clear data from Google Play app.

I get this from time to time. A restart seems to cure it.

I disable play services. around once a month I let all the apps update together rather than Google sending them piecemeal and eating battery.

Probably doesn't use Google's apps for that.

Not sure how not using Google's apps is essentially disabling Play Services

    No, the other way around.

You can disable Play Services (I can't on my S9, but I'm not trying to), and then just not use apps that need it. That's all I meant.

I disabled all play services. Don't have any problems till now. Everything works fine, without them.
And of course: I don't sync anything with Google. There are much better ways.

Aren't push notifications delayed or broken on your device now without Google Play Services?

    No, everything works normal.
The play services are made for Google play music, Google÷ and and Google play games.
If disabled you might get problems if you use this services.
    I don't use them.
