Yes, in good sunlight, the photos will be fine.
other than that, I don't think TCL cares about this phone having a "great" camera unfortunately.

So we are going to use the time-tested strategy of accusing the critical reviewers of pro-Apple/anti-BlackBerry, are we? Look at all the unboxings and first looks — they were raving. What Gizmodo said (using rather soft and reserved language) is consistent with the other k2 camera samples out there. And I agree it would be better to have one good camera with OIS then two without it.

The pictures are fine and on a par with what some high-end devices deliver. That's good enough for me as I am getting it for some much better reasons .

Honestly, the majority of smartphone cameras these days produce very good photos. I am not a photography expert; if I was, I would probably have a more professional camera. For my purposes (and for pretty much every smartphone user's purposes in my opinion), I need a camera that consistently produces a GOOD image. It's the camera that we use the most. The only exception for me that has really stood out from the rest is the Google Pixel 2 and 2XL. I've been cheating on BlackBerry for several months with my Pixel 2XL, and the camera (or at least the photos produced with their combination of the camera and software), are absolutely stunning.

So I guess my point is that a smartphone camera is rarely something that should discourage you from purchasing a device in 2018; they all perform extremely well. However, if you are an individual that values smartphone photos more than the averge individual, than perhaps you are in need of a device that specializes in photo quality and media consumption (such as the Google Pixel 2 and 2XL). In my opinion, if photos are your TOP priority, than a BlackBerry branded smartphone may not be for you.

Although I've loved my Pixel 2 XL, I will be buying a KEY2 knowing that its camera is probably going to be inferior. But what I am paying for is a productivity tool that is unmatched when it comes to what I do most on a smartphone, and that's communication.

Time to put that “productivity” myth to bed. You could be more productive on a blackberry decades ago, when all the other phones had 9 keys and no email/calendar sync. Now you can be X times more productive on something like a Note 8 AND have a great camera. You can get every language alphabet on a vkb and typing on it is faster, spreadsheets on a big screen look better, messengers work on every smartphone. It’s that weird feeling of satisfaction, a tactile pleasure of making a physical effort to type — that’s the primary reason all of us will buy another blackberry. Camera is something people use very often, even the “productive” types. Let’s see what the reviews say about the shooter, but it’s not looking good so far.

I have found the keyONE more than good enough for my daily use. If this is even a slight upgrade it will be fine for me.

only spot where i found it inadequate was the low-light. I like to go on night hikes and take photos of the city lights... I bring my s8 along as well for that reason

Except, why do true flagships like iPhone and Galaxy phones do a pretty good job in low light levels.

Even the original Pixel that had the same camera as the KEYone took much better low level photos. One reason is that software and processing power do make a difference.

While I agree that for best photos and full camera with a much larger sensor is better.... simple fact is few people carry those around during "real life" and at this point most don't even during special times when cameras where once always brought along.

I think the KEYtwo will be good enough for most business users needs. Those that are huge Social Media users (always posting photos), probable aren't going to be drawn to it anyway.

Exactly.... Thats one of the main reasons I carry two phones with me... (s8+ and keyone); picture quality and performance lag issue with key1.

Honestly speaking, if key2 can produce similar picture quality as my s8+, I will be more than glad to take it as the only phone for my daily use.

I really hate to carry two phones with me all the times for key1 being suck as a 'smartphone'. It is just a great typewriter for me now. I want key2 becomes a good smart phone with a awesome keyboard....

You guys kill me everytime! Such utter bull****! If photography is fractionally your thing, then NO smartphone is adequate! Have you heard of Cannon or Nikon? Those are what you need for great pics, period! Smartphones are ONLY for convenience mediocre pics, period! This is BlackBerry, to be able to take a decent pic is a miracle! But, by all means continue arguing and fanning the tremendous attributes of tiny cameras, barely adequate sensors with almost zero optical enhancement! Lmao!!!

Anybody who owns a real digital camera knows that the glass is every bit as important as the sensor, maybe more so. That's why once somebody has an investment in glass they don't change camps easily. I own over 5 grand just in glass and while all of it is very good you can spend 50 grand on a really high end piece of glass.

No smart phone can compete with a real shooter though it looks like BlackBerry has been lagging behind with their software.

2 things.

1. S8 low light shots are definitely way better than the K1 in general.

2. You had rocks in your KeyOne picture. Having an object in front of you while using flash will dominate your shot. Everything else will fade into the darkness.

The S8 shots had no object that would reflect light off of. Only the view of the city and the night sky.

Not a fair comparison.

The reason for KeyOne's bad performance in the camera department even though it was using the same sensor as the Pixel 2. Was because of the ISP on the Snapdragon 615. It's outdated, the 835//845 has a much more improved ISP.

It's unfortunate but the 660 has a much more improved ISP, but it's 821 ISP I believe. So expect low light shots comparable to cameras from that era.
