Blackberry Key2 is so affordable compared to other flagship that cost nearly $1000. How does Blackberry Mobil make money by selling it for $650? The phone should be more like $850 IMO. It has top of the line design, camera, PKB, security. I heard Oneplus 6 sold more than 1 million since the launch and I believe Key2 can do better! I wish we can customize the Keyboard color like Red, Blue, Green!

Well this thread should be interesting. get ready for the "660 chip" remarks. according to CB forums, that is the only thing that determine whether a phone is high end or not.

Snapdragon 660 is very close to snapdragon 835 performance! Iphone X processor is faster than Key2 but I think it's overkill!

    1) This isn't horse shoes.

    2) Your looking at generic SD 660 benchmarks.... not that many but go look at a KEYtwo benchmark score and compare it to a Galaxy S8's. Other components combine to make a score, and BlackBerry choose slower memory.

I didn't know that. Maybe $650 was right on the money?

$400 was good price. Still overpriced.

Very unfair comparison. The KEY2 has great specs, but not the same internal equivalents as the iPhone X does. It's not meant to compete on paper, it's made for a totally different user.

But there is no really any other comparison because they're all slab. What would be a fair comparison?

Something with similar specs on Android. Comparing Apple hardware to Android hardware never translates.

For a phone to be priced that high it needs to have all the bells and whistles. Whether you actually need those features or not, that's subjective. The KEY2 does not have wireless charging, dust / water resistance, high end display, top end chip set. The high end chip set also isn't entirely needed either. If you're a heavy mobile gamer then you will definitely want a device that rocks a snapdragon 835. I'm assuming most BlackBerry users don't need that. What was missing from the KEYone was more RAM. BlackBerry's suite of apps are memory hogs, especially the BlackBerry Hub. So, in conclusion, $650 USD is more than high enough for this product.

If Blackberry Mobile meet their sales expectations and can't make money at $650 they have no business making phones. $650 is entry level flagship territory in the US (Google Pixel 2) and already considered too expensive by some. Phones that cost $850 have top of the line everything (screen, processor, camera etc.) and other extras like wireless charging and water proofing. It was difficult, even for Apple customers, to swallow a $1000 price tag.

I'm willing to pay a little extra for a niche product if its really what I want, but $850 USD ($1050 CDN) for the Key2? I'm scared to imagine what these forums would look like...

BBMo wants to be on carrier shelves. Carriers don't want to sell cheap knockoffs. Therefore BBMo attempt with PKB and other differentiation is giving carriers what they want. Xiaomi doesn’t want to sell $250 phones either. They would love to be at top with profits and prestige that go with being #1 .

Huawei sold 6 million p20’s since March so far but as you say not a knock off. If BBMO sells a million units over a year that would be a great result.

I was point out that key2 is worth buying it for $650. I paid almost $1300 for a iphone X 256gb and I didn't like it. Even if it's $850, I'll buy it! I got every Blackberry phone since BB10 days!
