I am very curious as to why BlackBerry would not release security updates to their factory phones first or at least as quick as the new releases? They are not dependent on carrier input. Anyone know why this is so?

All Motion, KEY², and KEY² LE devices are factory unlocked.

Every variant has to wait for something - carrier approval, regional certification, Google Pay approval, etc, etc.

So, which specific device variant are you referring to?

Bought my Silver K2 from Walmart Canada. Not a carrier provided phone. This is a factory phone. What am I missing here?

    Which variant (PRD)?

As NA carriers have to wait for PTCRB certification before green-lighting an update, it seems the non-carrier models are being kept in sync.

Would have thought you'd have had ABI067 for some time now.

Still do not understand why security updates do not come first to factory phones. No NA carrier involved here, right?

As I said, ALL devices are factory-unlocked, and ALL updates come from BBMo.

I have read here that carriers often delay because of changes they need made. That would not apply here. What am I missing!

    TCL is BBMo.

But BlackBerry gets the OS from Google and does its kernel magic. BBMo supplies apps and drivers to BlackBerry. BlackBerry packages it all together, signs it, and sends it to BBMo to distribute.

At least be glad that you're getting it first. EU QWERTY unlocked gets it last. At least up till now.

Definitely not getting it first this time if at all, could be a skipped one.

The advantage of factory unlocked devices have been greatly diminished since PRD numbers seems to be important part of the process now.
