my battery has started lasting less. I have put on some new apps, not sure if thats doing it.

Any way to monitor what apps are using more battery especially in the background?

Go to system settings.
Search data
Data usage
Mobile Data Usage
Then click on each app as appropriate and deny background usage as you think fit

I have noticed this since the last update and my theory is that it is related to new network connectivity issues introduced by the update.

I am satisfied with key2 battery. Better than Classic. And even bit better than 9900. But worse than 9780,
