I’m sure others will say it’s not needed, but for my own peace of mind I still use avast & malware bytes from the App Store..
Without root access, anti-virus software is pretty useless. So I would say it's just a resource hog that doesn't add much value.
This.
I would agree with this. I feel that any anti-virus software you could possibly load on Android is probably only useful for preventing the spread of non-native viruses to other platforms.
For example, receiving an email with a Windows virus attached to it and having it removed automatically so you don't pass it on to another person. Or verifying your SD card doesn't contain any known malware (even if it isn't Android compatible) so that upon sharing the card or plugging up to a PC you can't accidentally infect yourself. Stuff of that nature.
I was under the impression that the SD card, while not encrypted, is scanned and protected. Is this not correct?
As others have said, it's a waste of space and resources unless you just want that warm fuzzy feeling of being protected by an app that can really do nothing about the situation.
A warm an fuzzy feeling I neither have when using Googledroid. ^^
I have never used a antivirus app with the key2 either. I do use a vpn mostly if using a public WiFi etc. I also stay away from the shady side of town lol.
Can anyone comment on this question? Much appreciated.
Far as I know, it's not scanned. What do you believe is doing the scanning? Google Play Services / Verify Apps does scan for malware and harmful software, even if it's not installed through the Google Play Store but again, AFAIK, it doesn't check the SD Card specifically.
(Sidenote: The sharing of a virus Android to PC shouldn't be much of a concern either. If you're that worried about viruses then chances are you have done your due diligence and installed/activated/enabled an antivirus for your PC as well)
I don't think that Android Avast has the ability to scan your attachments on an Exchange server or on a web-based provider to prevent you from forwarding them.
