Hope that everyone is well and staying safe. Do any of you know if "Nearby Share" will be coming to the KEY2 by BlackBerry Mobile? Thank you.

Since phone has been EOLd officially, I don’t think so...
"as Google says it can be added to any Android phone via Google Play Services instead of a full OS update." And it is supported on Android 6 and up.... But it's only out as a beta to very select devices. Google didn’t clarify when the feature would be available to all Android users.
Will say I use AirDrop a LOT these days.... Android has tried a couple of times to duplicate it, and it is surprising that they'd be able to do it with just an App and not a complete system change.
Wouldn’t it just rely on NFC if only app? Still, we’ll probably see the “not available” for many less common devices.
"Nearby Share uses Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or NFC to send content. It automatically determines which method is the best for the situation when a transfer is initiated. Large files will likely take advantage of a Wi-Fi direct connection, while smaller items can be sent over Bluetooth or NFC. You also have the option to enable mobile data or disable all internet transfers entirely."
"Nearby Share is part of Google Play Services, a required component of Android devices that ships with the Google Play Store. Play Services is updated through the Play Store, making it much easier for Google to add Nearby Share to many devices."
So really have no idea what device will or will not be able to use it... or how well it will work. Only time will tell....
While the KEY2 won't be getting update anymore to the OS.... Google Play Services and Google Play Store will be updated. As will many other apps that will need to incorporate this feature...
The question is will some of the BlackBerry and TCL apps be updated to utilize the new feature? Kinda doubt Password Keeper is going to let you "Nearby Share" a password to another Password Keeper user. But you use the Google Photo App on a KEY2, that would eventually have that functionality - but not the default camera app.
Appreciate your replies.
Agreed... I’m just thinking if the app isn’t available for a specific device, then all the other the other stuff doesn’t matter.
That “not compatible” issue was a real pain for my BE KEYone and Motion sometimes.
Well those users can replace most the TCL and BlackBerry apps with others I guess....
If that's how it even works.... no one has had a chance to use it or review it yet. But several have said this it Android's third attempt at copying AirDrop... So there is a good chance that the APIs are already built into other apps for Beam or Fast Share and maybe this will utilize those?
But will this work any better? Might "work" on Android 8, but not as well as one a newer fully supported phone?
It is already on my Key2 - just checked Thursday, 06 August 2020.
I used the regular "share" icon (the sideways slingshot) and "nearby share" was one of the things I could use, along with the regular apps like Inbox or WhatsApp.
Wow, that's excellent. It doesn't appear on mine yet, but appreciate the update.
Try this experiement : Go to Photos. Pick one. Use that -< icon to share it with something. Scroll sideways and keep going and going until you run out of possible share things. Mine was second last. Now it's second from the first. :)
Did exactly as you stated and no such option appeared. It actually still shows "Android Beam" as an option. Thank you.
