Seeing that the Nokia, OnePlus 6, Essential Phone among others have have received or in the process of receiving Android Pie, I have a feeling the Key2 might receive same! Am I being overly optimistic? Or do you think BB Mobile might have a pleasant surprise for us

I doubt it. Nokia, OnePlus, and Essential (especially Essential) eat TCL's lunch when it comes to updates.

If it's anything like the KEYone and Motion expect a long, tortuous Pie rollout through most of 2019.

It needs a year for BlackBerry to put oreo on keyone since it released on September 2017. Key two will get pie in 2019.

Given that some K1 PRD's are still stuck on 7.1, I wouldn't hold your breath on Pie.

I wouldn't count on it. Personally I didn't find anything critical on pie that I need. My key2 works great now and with every new os release there's always a risk of something getting messed up anyway. I'm fine with Oreo for now. I get outstanding battery life and my device runs as expected and without issues.

Well of course that's the same with any manufacturer. It doesn't always work out though.

Hopefully they have learned some lessons from the Keyone line this time around. From what I understand Pie is an even more incremental update than Oreo is. Apart from random things like the greyscale feature to save a bit of battery, what do you want it for?

I don't recall any BlackBerry device ever getting anything quickly.

What bothers me the most is my DTEK50 being stuck on Marshmallow, but the wife's S6 will be on its way to Oreo at some point according to Samsung.

You just get a much more usable life out of a Samsung than a BlackBerry. Even though I only paid $250 for my unlocked DTEK50, I'll likely need an upgrade long before the wifey. That said, 6.0 is a pretty solid workhorse and I have few complaints.

And isn't that all that matters at the end of the day? (Unless you're a tech nerd, which many of us here are )

That said, really looking forward to Android Pie mostly for the disappearance of the horrible red status bar in power saving mode (replaced by permanent notification, which I find much less intrusive).

The gestures would just be the icing on the cake

Might get it earlier than Summer of 2019.... especially if they release a new phone sooner, rather than later.

The difference being that the KEYOne didn't have much priority as they weren't required to update it to Oreo, but they are required to update the KEY2 to Pie because of Treble.

Incremental? The new webOS-style multitasking is incremental???

Exactly! I mean: I've heard quite a few complaints from Nokia users who already received the Pie update about how many bugs/issues it has. So releasing fast isn't always great, Nokia should've released it in a Beta program first.

Treble makes it easier to update from Oreo to Pie, but not mandatory.

it's almost certainly largely irrelevant for those with physical nav keys that probably won't be able to fully take advantage of the new gestures.

That would very disappointing if BlackBerry chose to go that route or perhaps forced to because of how the device is designed.

So, is it TCL or Blackberry that is responsible for the updates? I thought blackberry was responsible for the software - what's the dynamics here?
