So what happened? My spacebar stopped working correctly after update in November 2018. And, not solved yet. Hitting spacebar sometimes doesn't fill in a space between words I'm writing. German QWERTZ key2 64 gb
I just got the update not too long ago (Michigan-US). It will work every once in a while with a long press. I ended up turning on the virtual keyboard so it pops up on texts and emails. I use it only for the spacebar. It has been a learning curve for sure to tap up instead of down for the spacebar. It stinks because the main reason I have this phone is strictly for the physical keyboard. I am hoping with the next update it goes back to normal. If not, I have no idea what to do.

There is no way the Dec patch did this.
You can always try a factory reset in case something got messed up during the update process itself.
