I know that you can install HUB+ suite on many devices but to get rid of the advertisements you need to pay a monthly subscription.
If you buy a BB branded phone do you still need to pay to get rid of the ads?
Thanks.

Branded phones do not have the ads....
Apps installed via Cobalt's BlackBerry Manager.... also do not.
Even Cobalt recommends you use the official app, unless it's not available in your market. He doesn't provide it to hurt BlackBerry.
I deleted all Blackberry apps from my phone but when I did have it installed via Colbalt's Blackberry Manager method, I had the ad's displayed in the Hub.
I eventually deleted the Hub as it was not what I was expecting. It had too many issues with the cardev (at least at the time) and it wasn't worth it to me to pay the ongoing monthly subscription fee.
Things change.... not sure what issues you had with cardev, but they might have been fixed at this point.
There was another Hub+ Services update yesterday, and most of the app suite was updated again today, including hub and calendar. :)
I also received updates for most BB apps.
Unexpected but appreciated. Seems like it might be a precursor to Nougat. HA.
