I tried to pay a few bucks a couple of years ago and even then the Donate tab on BB Manager crashed. Have tried a few times since to no avail

Yeah I always figured BlackBerry was aware... but they appreciated how the same efforts had helped with BB10 so much, they overlooked the minor losses in sales with Cobalt's BB Manager.

Hopefully this is a sign that BlackBerry (or someone) is about "invest" into these apps.

Paramount years ago was faced with the same thing a group in NYS of trekkies had a full scale mock up of the Enterprise Bridge. They had fun dressing up and filming scenes of them having fun, they posted them on YouTube. Then the letter came from Paramount that they are infringing on their copy write and ceases and desist. They wrote back explaining what and why they are doing it that they make no profit, just as fans. After a few more back and fourths the approval was given, even William Shatner visited his "Bridge".

In fairness though, the BlackBerry Suite is a paid subscription service - kind of like Netflix.

How does offering modded apps (HUB or Netflix) to circumvent paying "not hurt anyone"?

But the app ( BB Manager as APK file which I have saved and stored in my cloud app) itself is still active right?

Even if you re- installing the app and the modified priv apps afterwards on a new android OS platforms and a brand new smartphone, it should and still works 100% right?
