How were the DTEK50 and 60 prices received there?

Hopefully they reduce the "BlackBerry Tax" on this device to claw back some much needed mind and marketshare.

There are lot of good phones with great spec available at affordable cost in India.
In order for get this succeed, they must have a good spec wit matching cost in India.

They can never go head to head with other companies. The security the BlackBerry offers will always be more expensive. As such, the general consumer will probably not be that interested.

    Looks over function.

What is it with people and these 'bezel-less' devices? They may well look nice but from a practical point of view they're a disaster! One drop, that's all it will take.

Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, etc don't compete as competitively on specs and price as many Chinese and Indian OEM's do but they still sell a few million devices per quarter. Whether "BlackBerry" can get to that level will probably depend on their pricing but I'm sure they'd be happy with it, even if they aren't #1 .

Samsung does very well in India... they own 60% in the premium segment, which is for devices priced above Rs 30,000 ($450). And OnePlus has staked their claim to a portion of the premium market there too. Strange Apple isn't doing that well there, even though many of those cheap local devices are clones of an Apple device.

Back five years ago, BlackBerry had a little over 30% marketshare, and Nokia was right behind them. Here they are both trying to recapture a portion of that, both with very different strategies. Nokia has a $20 feature phone up to a soon to be released $600 premium phone with devices all in-between.

Oh absolutely, you still have to put in work to find success in that market but my point is you don't need to have cutting edge specs to succeed (in the midtier anyway). Brand recognition, quality, and price are just as important.

The BlackBerry brand probably isn't as tarnished in emerging markets as it is in western markets but I doubt the cost of new devices is helping them capitalize on that much.

    Absolutely out of the competition.
For example, the DTEK50 was ₹7000 (roughly $110) more expensive than the Moto G4+ which even had a fingerprint sensor so the normal consumer is never going to buy it.
And the DTEK60 pricing was a joke. More expensive than the S7edge. The DTEK60 was priced at roughly $600+.
They should be taking a BlackBerry tax. No issues with that. But till a reasonable amount. The amount consumers feel worth paying.

But what is deemed a fair premium for a low-volume device with enhanced security features?

This would COST TCL at least 25% more to build it (between BlackBerry fee and low-volume component pricing).
