My 1 month old DTEK lags like there is no tomorrow. I hate this phone. I'm down to my last straw with this thing. I am going to try an OS wipe and reload. My question is should I initiate the wipe from within the phone (Settings->Backup and reset->Factory data reset) or use the autoloader method? Is one method better than the other?

    Thanks.

I've done the Factory Reset option a few times after doing major updates on my DROID.

I assume if the installation partition was corrupted in some way, that a New install might work better. Also if you hare having issue, plan on doing one Reset and restore your data. If that doesn't work do another Reset and don't restore any data.

I'm thinking of wiping my device too. I was just wondering how to back up my "Notes" ? I'm not sure if they are being saved or not.

I use Google Keep for Notes. It allows you to sync your notes.

Thanks to all for the replies. I have all my data backed up to the cloud or on my micro SD card (pictures, documents, etc). My plan is to do a fresh wipe and start from scratch with installing any apps from G-Play.

I'll try the wipe method from within the phone first.

Easiest thing to do IMO is copy your notes into a corresponding Google Doc file and save it to your Google drive. This way you will always have it available.

Edit: I'll just add that I stopped using these 'notes' type apps for this reason and just use a word doc saved to the cloud to jot any notes down for myself.

So I wiped a reloaded last night from within the phone settings. I didn't restore any backup. I went one by one and installed all of my email accounts and apps and tested my phone after each install. My three general problems with this phone have been:

    1. Numbness on the right side of the screen whereby any touch on the screen won't register. Be it letters on my keyboard, or any icons.

    2. Google maps not working correctly when mounted in my car. Using my finger to drag across the screen to move to a new place results in extreme zooming in or out instead.

    3. General lag in my apps

    4. Extra sensitivity of the touch screen in the middle of the screen. Trying to scroll ends up opening links on the page instead.

All 4 problems appeared to be gone last night. I left the phone on my desk last night not charging and I woke up this morning to use it. All 4 problems have reappeared. #1 is not as bad as before... yet.

I'm at my wits end with this phone. My 3 year old Z30 is better than this piece of #?!@

To me it sounds like you have a defective device.

I use my phone for 3-4 hours a day without any touch issues. Google Maps works fine, I have it on a mount in my truck and it works fine for me. I guess im not in a super dense area with a lot of roads but I never have a problem zooming, rotating and using it. The only application I experience severe lag in is Snapchat but thats more of a general Android problem and not specific to the device.

I'd get yours RMA'd if it is actually as bad as you are saying.

I'm seriously still having the same problem with my phone as well! See my post below on the Android forum two weeks ago. I m hating this phone as well!

    1st post;

"So i ve had my DTEK60 for about two weeks now and at first the phone seemed pretty good. Now I'm noticing considerable lagging when switching between apps like accessing the hub or trying to play a video from my SD card. Totally stops responding and so far get a system ui not responding. And get this just a week into my new phone I try playing a youtube video thru Google Chrome and the browser stopped responding. Finally when it started responding again I tried again and same bs. So I tried the youtube video app and just as bad. Couldnt play the same video as it wasn't responding! I was like wow ok let's try Firefox. Installed it and it worked. Man does Android suck. Just earlier today I'm trying to play a video and go back it's not responding. Try the back button and nothing so I try the home button and nothing. System blackouts or something and now I'm back at the home screen showing all my apps but the wall paper is black, no time, signal, battery and etc showing. So I do restart.

Since this phone has newer hardware way better processor (quad core vs dual core) and more ram (4 vs 2) than my z30 I would expect this phone running butterly smoother especially with no lagging system not responding this earlyof having the phone. Never had this problem on day 1 or day 20 with my z10 when it was first released or when I upgraded to my z30 back in February of 2014!

I guess its true what they say Android requires high specs just to run decent and that's why it's all about hardware specs for Android phones. BB10 and iOS don't need such high cpu, gpu and ram specs to run their OS's smooth"

    2nd post;

    I'm running Android 6.0.1.

Honestly Android sucks. So not impressed how the phone lags so much and the phone is new. Way better specs than my old z30 but the z30 ran so much smoother especially in the beginning even though BB10 was still buggy. If it's not the OS not responding it's the apps that are seriously lagging. My friend had the same problem with his note 7 after two weeks that it was lagging. I figured probably bec of Samsung's software like most manufacturers installing so much bloatware. He returned for an iPhone 6 plus and is so much happier. I didn't think I would be experiencing such lagging issues and system not responding like I am. As I said in the beginning of this thread that Android is all about specs. The specs this phone has I shouldnt have any lagging not responding issues this early. I shouldnt have to reload /reset to factory defaults or reinstall my apps to fix this. Android may have the customizations over iOS but iOS seriously has the optimization over Android running much smoother on a less spec out phone.

Here it's my experience... got the phone about 25 days ago but I was in a business trip and didn't touch the phone until this past weekend... first setup was terrible, thru the Google backup option: battery was draining even with the charger connected, serious lag, unresponsive, not a happy camper... I did a factory reset, used BlackBerry transfer this time around, didn't put any pictures or videos, and I transferred one email account at a time, allowing a full day before adding the next one... phone now works perfectly... just my experience though...

That sucks! Sorry to hear about your experience. I'm now uninstalling apps one by one to see if it is one of them that is causing the issue. Based on the fact that it does work decently now and then I'm thinking it is software related.

I miss my Z30 as well. This isn't fanboyism as much as it is the phone just worked and this craptek60 running horrendous android does not.

Well, I figure I'll keep this thread updated as I troubleshoot. I started removing apps and testing things one by one. I *think* I found the problem... the Starbucks app. As soon as I removed it things have started to work better. Keyboard is mostly responsive but the space bar still doesn't always accept my touches. Google maps now seems to work fine in my car mount. Anyway, I'm going to remove more and see if I can get the keyboard 100%.

I decided to do another wipe and reload last night. I only installed whatsapp and added all my email accounts to the hub. Scrolling seemed to be OK but the keyboard sensitivity on the right hand edge and bottom was hit and miss. Woke up this morning and tested in my car mount. Not good. This thing is going back. The digitizer has to be pooched.

Yeah even after a reload and you are still having issues than that thing needs to go back! Sorry that your experience with this phone is so bad.

I did a factory reset the other night and so far so good. The only difference I didn't use BlackBerry's content transfer to restore and installed everything manually. The only thing I used to restore was this app for my text msgs. I have to say pretty awesome. I ve noticed a lot of differences in settings. I guess maybe it was related to the content transfer restore that modified some settings from my BlackBerry 10 phone or messed it up along. Anyways, it is still early so we ll see in a week what's the verdict.

Interesting. I have the Starbucks app installed u am not noticing any "major" lag. Small lag here and there but nothing major.

The issues came back a couple of hours after removing Starbucks so as you said that wasn't the cause. I sent it in for a warranty repair as I'm pretty sure it is an issue with the digitizer.

Just an update for any folks that are interested...

Finally got a response from BlackBerry support. Apparently my device was stuck at the boot screen when they tried to start it up to test and repair it. They escalated to TCL who advised them to send me a brand new device.

I'm still confused as to why they couldn't resolve the boot issue on the device I sent in, not that I am complaining.

So I guess I will never know for sure if it was my digitizer that was bad or something else.

Hopefully the new device works 100%.
