When if ever will Verizon customers be able to buy a
f+*-;:# phone from BlackBerry to work on the Verizon network?
Not everyone wants to build a phone for an old technology that should have disappeared years ago.
Companies only build phones for Verizon, if Verizon agrees to purchase them before hand.

Basically this.
Lol geez, tell us how you really feel. But, you're right.
I'm guessing it's the other way around. I'm sure BlackBerry would love to be on Verizon if they could get a purchase order. More likely that Verizon is not interested in the dying and floundering BlackBerry that has been a source of many headaches for Verizon in the past. Most of the major players do not seem to have a problem building a phone for Verizon - one of the top Carriers in the US.
No. BlackBerry's DTEK phones do not support CDMA.
Haha... yeah, because Verizon probably didn't want them. Blackberry will not bother producing CDMA phones if they don't have a buyer.
If they could get a commitment from Verizon, I guarantee they would make them.
The rest of world is mostly GSM. 2 carriers in the states are on outdated technology. BlackBerry will go where the fish are and thats not customers in States and especially not on GSM. They won't sell their sole to Verizon.
Consumers are not their market anymore.
I'm pretty sure you mean Soul. But business is business. Apple and Samsung did not sell their soul to be on Verizon - it's just another distribution channel. Like I said, if BlackBerry could get a big enough purchase order, they too would make a CDMA variant for Verizon (just like they have done with most of their phones in the past). They can't, so they won't. Simple as that.
Totally agree here. Curious though. Each year the iPhone after the launch period puts out an Unlocked SIM Free Model. In the past the model number was typically the same as the T-Mobile version thus if you knew this early on could pay full retail for T-Mobile model and put any SIM in.
This year it's the Verizon Model. I know this isn't iMore so I won't go crazy here, but why would they choose the Verizon model which seems the least likely?
This is not a problem for anyone else
Well if the unlocked version of the iPhone is the Verizon model than it is capable of running CDMA and GSM. Thus, technically BlackBerry devices could be made the same way...
And the original question was about there not being Verizon model of DTEK60. My point was you could make the device capable of running on all networks.
It may come later if sales really pick up. Verizon may place order and the phones would be built for Verizon

It's entirely possible to build a phone with radios for CDMA along with GSM (Motorola does) but in this case what you're doing is building something for a company that has a history of refusing to activate non-carrier-sold devices (they originally refused to activate the Moto Play series phones) and in addition you're basically building in expense so you can run on two carriers out of the entire world (Verizon and Sprint.)
This might be ok on an incremental cost basis if you had reason to believe both of those carriers would not intentionally block your devices from being activated and used. However, there is no such reasonable belief, and in fact history says the opposite.
We, as consumers, are responsible for this in that we tolerate it despite the fact that such behavior is quite-arguably illegal under the Clayton Act (100+ year old anti-trust law!) but without people making noise about it nobody's going to act to stop it.

One can argue about how/why and whether it's right/wrong/good/bad/indifferent but for many people these facts remain:
1. VZW has the fewest areas of no/weak signals.
2. VZW has discount plans that make them cheaper than other carriers.
I couldn't tell you how many times random people have come up to me and asked how I have a signal. I always tell them the main reason is that I have a Blackberry and that being on VZW helps as well.
Keep in mind the the PRIV is android, is offered still with Verizon. However the Priv can work with both GSM and CDMA... It is true that CDMA is slowly to be phased out in North America. However Verizon does not want to start a panic with it's existing customers about CDMA phones. Verizon currently offering phones that are GSM CDMA compatible. I'm under the opinion that Verizon is doing this silently. I was hoping that the DTEK would operate with Verizon, it is true that CDMA is not available with DTEK to my knowledge...
Isn't Verizon using "Advanced" or "VoLTE" (voice over LTE)? This way, there's no need for the CDMA radio (voice / telephone calls) since both voice and data are going through their LTE network.
Please correct if I'm mistaken.
Man, all this talk is pulling me back to yesteryear with CDMA One, 1X, 2000, EVDO vs TDMA, GSM, EDGE heated debates.
In the end...I guess Qualcomm the founder of code division multiple access ( CDMA) for digital cellphone use is still at the top vs Nokia and GSM consortium since they have their hand in chipsets along with pretty much any 3G,/4G mobile device and beyond.
As you all can see from my avatar...I've followed Qualcomm all the way back with my first digital phone from analog.
My good ol' CDMAOne Qualcomm "Q" phone.
As much as I loved roaming with Verizon's awesome crazy network coverage when I had my CDMA /EVDO flip phones and Blackberries while in the US, I liked how Telus basically overlayed their CDMA/EVDO towers with WCDMA/HSPA.
Too bad Verizon didn't go this route because if they did what Telus did which still has their legacy CDMA network which I believe will be shut down next year, Verizon folks could have enjoyed pretty much any unlocked WCDMA/HSPA/LTE device and beyond.
In a nutshell, Telus basically bypassed old 2G GSM technology and straight to 3G WCDMA /HSPA and now 4G LTE while still maintaining their CDMA /EVDO network.
Looking forward to Advanced LTE
2019 is when they're supposed to fully drop CDMA.
Just a bump and an offering of a tidbit of info that might be interesting to some. Apparently it IS possible to use a non-Verizon phone on Verizon. Apparently, Verizon is legally obligated to do so. The flip (yuk yuk!) side is that compatibility is on the customer bringing the phone. Verizon uses LTE bands 2, 4, & 13 (1900, 1700/2100, & 700mHz). AFAIK, except for the Leap, all BBerry phones that can use LTE13 are already VZW phones. VZW's LTE coverage with bands 2 & 4 is VERY spotty as it's used to improve capacity in congested areas. It's LTE13 that gives VZW its seamless coverage.
Lack of Band 13 in BBerry phones makes it kind of moot, but might be interesting to keep in mind. Here's the link:

Oh, you could try to use the DTEK60 on VZW, the question become whether you'll actually be able to effectively use it.
