Both Solid Explorer and Asus Zen UI are good, imho.

    I use Solid Explorer.

As for recommendations of ES, I can only recommend the pro version; a big part of the criticisms of it causing ads and bloat are from the free version.

I have gone with Asus on all of my non-Samsung Android phones in the past. It does the job, easy moving form internal storage to SD card. Not the most feature rich, but fine for me.

So I've went and tried ASUS File Manager based on this thread and I've got to say it is AMAZING!!! You can link your Google drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, and others to it (basically eliminating the need for their respective apps), and the LAN option to directly connect to your PC thru your Wifi connection to transfer files! It also features a hidden PIN-protected cabinet for files you don't want easily accessible too, has Dark Mode, and overall it's free and I don't see any ads!! (If there are some, then I don't notice them)

I don't see ads anymore either! At one point the Asus file manager had ads but obviously not any more.

Asus is the closest to replicating BB10's file manager in terms of simplicity I find. Solid Explorer is more powerful and suited for power users imho. I also have more faith in both vendors that other file manager Dev's. Jmho.

I've settled on Solid Explorer which is much like the BB10 File Manager, but the ASUS File Manager uses a different type of interface and can be useful as well.

All of the ones mentioned are very good, and have free versions. I'm currently testing one called File Manager +. One thing I like about FM+ is that it allows FTP access from any computer. The best advantage of that is being able to move folders and their contents in their entirety; something the others don't offer - and something I had with my BB10.

No. There are some pay apps on the Playstore that limit simultaneous use to X number of devices but never for just switching a phone.
