Barclays in their infinate wisdom have updated their mobil banking app so it requires Android 8 or above. So how can I upgrade my OS to Android 8 when I am currently running 6.0.1

You can't. You will need to update to a newer device.

You shouldn't be banking on any device with a version less than Android 11 or that isn't still receiving security patches!

OK. So from my perspective (not being a great believer that IT enhances our lives in any way but just complicates things) it is best not to use my smartphone for anything like mobile banking if I dont want to have to keep buying a new handset every year or so!

I should point out though there are phones that have 5 years of updates and security patches so you don’t need to replace your device every 1 or 2 years.

I believe the higher end samsungs, Pixel devices and iPhones all have good long term support for their new devices.

Pixel 6a and 7a which are really mid-tier devices will have also had 5 years of support. Down to 4 years (3.5 maybe) now for the 6a which I have.

I'm still using iPhone XR from 2018 with current updates. My Pixel 5a is from 2021, was inexpensive and still getting updates.

Yeah, thanks for clarifying, i should have been clearer, I meant the higher end Samsungs rather than the other phones as well.

    That you know of.

It's not always about taking money. Sometimes it's just getting the information.

I have a Debian 12 PC for daily use and a Windows 7 PC to manage my BlackBerries. For banking, I use whichever is on.
