Seems the flaw would be Android related, and therefore if not patched, a BlackBerry would have fallen too?

Nice thought but unfortunately ya dreamin'......one thing you learn in IT -nothing is impossible to hack - difficult, yes but not impossible

An interesting thread though. Had a look at that Hacker News website and did a search for 'BlackBerry '. Only recent result was April 2016 where the Canadian Police obtained a master key, rest of the articles were from 2013....that looks pretty good for BlackBerry :-)

It depends, and since the specific vulnerability is kept undisclosed before being patched by Google (December, probably), there's no way of checking over here. But still, BlackBerry can make a difference: for example rooting through Quadrooter couldn't survive a reboot. On the other hand, stuff like Drammer might still be usable on a BlackBerry Android device; when I used their analysis app on a Priv running AAG853 (October patch), the app could produce memory configurations that could be exploited by some other exploit. But that's due to RAM structure, not the OS itself.

its about time for google seriously take a look at the droid and may be move to another better OS... secure from the start... if they got resources, develop some sdk that easy to convert old app or rewrite the old app using new "language", (just like apple develop the swift.. enhance both performance and security)... not cheap, but could be effective. rather than patch one after the other (also not cheap, but distributed from longer time... and more cat and mouse game... more mouse everyday, since it is open source). it is about time google take ownership of whole handset-both software and hardware..encrypt using both if it is necessary, with IoT and home, car, etc. daily life are depend upon it, better be careful rather than sorry...(crap app writer and elite hacker are deadly combination).

They are not able to hack it yet they must have tried it a million times as BlackBerry says the most secure android so that will win them a lot of attention if they could hack and post that the most secure device is what they have hacked will be good for their portfolio but they haven't had a success....i bet

Looks like it was a Chrome bug, so using Chrome browser on a DTEK or Priv might expose you if you haven't updated.

If, in fact, this vulnerability exists on BlackBerry Android, the next questions would be: would it achieve a persistent root (unlikely), and would DTEK/Integrity Detection catch it (likely)?
