I think my phone had an issue with shutter to flash timing in my opinion.

Yes there is a toggle but it defaults to shutter priority.

Is it maybe possible to toggle between shutter and focus priority in the camera settings menu?
yup, you can do that.. you'll find it listed as "Focus Before Capture". It is off by default.

It seems the DTEK60 camera is pretty decent and quick to capture images.

But the Priv's camera has better clarity and color reproduction/saturation.

Anyone care to comment? I don't know much about cameras

Right. I feel the same way. Or maybe it's just the rendering in CB forums. Because the verdict seems to favor the Dtek60 over the PRIV. So maybe if we saw the pictures how they look in the phone, we would have a different opinion.

I find the 18MP camera on my Priv is fantastic. I have received many compliments. The 21MP camra is mediocre however. Was wondering if DTEK60 is any better....

I will try and post pics from my Priv to show you how great they are!

Maybe it's the HDR, but the Priv camera from these sample shots look grainy to me.

No, the originals are not grainy; it's only once they are reposted on CB that they become grainy.

Use imgur and host the pictures there instead of using CB to host them, the compression is really bad.
