Maybe BlackBerry is asking a premium for the DTEK60 in India as a hedge against currency instability.

The DTEK60 is very over priced in India but why it is over priced is because of 3 primary reasons. DTEK60 costs around 500$ in the US ex VAT which comes up to $500 * 68 Rs per $ = Rs 34000. To bring it to India the company has to pay Import Duty + VAT + Optiemus will charge its margins i.e. its charges to distribute the devices in India. So approx. Rs 34000 + 15% duty i.e. Import + 12.5% VAT + Optiemus Margins adds upto Rs 47000/- of which I am guessing their margins are Rs 2850/- per device.
If this pricing analysis is correct, then the DTEK60 is priced correctly based on the U.S. base price and all the Indian taxes added. Perhaps for the DTEK50, the pricing is better because BlackBerry had already written off the remaining DTEK50 inventory as a loss?

No I wouldn't say they would have taken the inventory as a loss but rather they must have cut margins on the DTEK50 since they would have seen some gain.

Yes. Axiom Telecom. Many other online sellers are also offering Dtek60 for little lesser price!

They are. You can defend all you want. The simple calculation is the DTEK60 is 67% mor expensive than the DTEK50 In the US. It's 113% more expensive for the DTEK50 in India. That is bad.

But you don't know what the relative allotments are, so the comparison may be irrelevant.

Not sure why do the relative allotments matter. I am not saying the DTEK50 is x% more expensive than in US. The difference between the prices of the DTEK50 and DTEK60 in India is fishy. They definitely should/could have priced the DTEK60 lower.

There is a fixed cost component to bringing a device into a given market. If the allotment is small, those fixed costs are spread over fewer units.

This could be true but cutting some margins to be really competitive would have been a "Want it anyhow device" which is what they want at the moment.

Well let's hope it goes well atleast from the loyalists.

Is the Dtek 60 officially available in india?

I went on the global BlackBerry website and when I selected India, it read not available in your region.

However it is listed on Amazon India as an international version.

It'll be available from 15-Dec-2016 in India. Across all Croma stores and also to check if any retailer has near you please check a website officially launched by them.

Checked the BlackBerry website, still says not available for your region (India), called up the local service station, they said it will be launched after 15th of January.

Any insights on its launch in India would really help, thanks in advance.

Well that is what this whole thread describes. The phone is a little over priced. I had tried to explain why it must be overpriced. If someone who is not a citizen of US or Canada can go and order their phone then pay the full price and reclaim the GST paid on the phone which will come up to around max Rs 32000/-. Even the GST no claimed with get you the phone for around Rs 38000/- which is a fair price. Competition is too high for this phone with Oneplus and Lenovo coming with super cheap phones and similar or better specifications.

Anyway if you can afford then definitely can go for the device since I have read a lot of sponsored and unpaid reviews who willingly say that this device is a definite go ahead.

Of what I have read, most reviews of the device are very positive, if it were only available with a retailer just to get a feel of it.

I think BlackBerry is not at all aggressive with marketing it.

No one knows that blackberry makes android phones.

Will wait and watch for a price drop.

Since Christmas is near there is a possibility of a price drop in US and Canada. Maybe after 25th or 25th onwards but in India it is hardly likely. This product is just available from last three days in India.

BlackBerry today launched Dtek50 in india at ₹21990 which is bit pricier, but in case of Dtek60 they again did wrong pricing which is ₹46990. I mean dont they analyze the market competion or they simply want to quit from smartphones market.
Because except BlackBerry's Diehard Fan's who will buy an overpriced Dtek60?

    BlackBerry Z30
Isn't there over a Billion people in India? Perhaps blackberry is playing the odds there with their pricing. Perhaps they've done research of what percentage of people will pay thier asking price
