Wonder what kind of blackberry devices were used
Good question...picture posted on article is a Priv.
Znet , cnet...same crap. They will bash BlackBerry any opportunity they get.
Police didn't hack they just got lucky
Ya it sounds like they may have been using BlackBerry android devices and BBM. If organized crime members would do a little more reading here they would know that bbm and ours is not encrypted unless you have subscribed to BBM Protected... thats how I roll and I'm not involved in organized crime . I just talk to a lot of shady characters from crackberry :)
PGP has not been secure for ages. This has been covered to death. I wish the media would just stop Digging up outdated junk. Like saying the Police just successfully hacked iOS 3.1, BIG DEAL! Nobody cares. But as soon as Blackberry makes any sort of headway, you get ***** publications perpetuating outdated stories to show Blackberry as unsecured.
These are talking about BBOS 6 and 7 devices. Not Blackberry Android or Blackberry 10. If you use PGP it is generally with older devices. Even Blackberry 10 does not have PGP enabled by default, it is there to maintain compatibility with older Blackberry devices.
Old news. Besides, those "PGP BlackBerry" phones were just stripped 9900s anyway.
Yes, like a year and a half back
Also not to mention that this information wasn't on a BlackBerry device but on a server that linked to a modified BlackBerry device.

They didn't "hack" the BlackBerry devices. They got hold of the encryption keys. These devices were setup with some sort of pgp encryption. Altered BlackBerry devices.
