you can't use the power key or something similar?
Great idea for one hand operation. Or bring back the old BB10 way of tap anywhere.
You can use volume key but it's kind of high up. The convenience key would be perfect.
Yep, I remember with my old Bold I had the convenience key set to launch the camera, and once up, pressing it again would take the photo, it was awesome...

You can use it to open the camera but not take pictures... me personally I don't find it useful for taking pictures as it's in the middle of your phone. If you have the volume button on the top left feels good pushing it with your finger without blocking some of the screen..
I use the app "Buttons re-mapper" on my Priv to allow the middle button to function as a play/pause rather than a mute, I'm assuming the same app could be used to achieve the desired functionality that the OP desires. I don't have a DTEK60 (yet) to test it out myself, however.
